Jayson Stark of ESPN.com reports that Vladimir Guerrero and Johnny Damon are looking for contracts around $5 million.

It’s pretty easy to understand why they are still looking for a home. Guerrero, who turns 37 next week, had a career-low .733 OPS with the O’s last season while the 38-year-old Damon had a .743 OPS with the Rays. With a number of veteran hitters still available in free agency and spring training rapidly approaching, they’ll almost certainly have to lower their demands.

Ken Davidoff of New York Newsday reports that the representatives for Vladimir Guerrero and Raul Ibanez have contacted the Yankees about their vacancy at designated hitter.

Davidoff’s report also named Jack Cust, but one would assume he’s no longer an option after reportedly agreeing to a contract with the Astros. Quite frankly, it’s not surprising to hear that the reps for Vlad and Ibanez have contacted the Bombers, as they wouldn’t be doing their jobs if they didn’t. Recent reports have also named Carlos Pena, Hideki Matsui and Johnny Damon as possibilities. With so many veteran hitters still looking for work, chances are the Yankees will end up with someone at a bargain rate.

Vladimir Guerrero will not be offered arbitration by the Orioles.

Not a surprise. Guerrero, a Type B free agent, earned $8 million this season while delivering an underwhelming .290/.317/.416 batting line to go along with with 13 home runs, 63 RBI and a .733 OPS over 590 plate appearances. With his production on the steady decline, the future Hall of Famer will have to settle for a one-year deal with a low guarantee. A return to Baltimore is unlikely, as they would prefer more flexibility out of the DH spot.
