Mike DiGiovanna of the LA Times reports that Torii Hunter felt misled by the Angels organization, being led to believe they didn’t have the financial flexibility to re-sign him.

Hunter was told that the organization was hand-cuffed by the bad contract of Vernon Wells, and couldn’t offer him more than a $5 million deal. After Hunter signed in Detroit, they went on to ink Josh Hamilton to a massive five-year, $125 million deal. He added that he would’ve been fine had the organization been honest and admitted they didn’t want to bring him back, he was just upset that he was lied to.

Tigers signed OF Torii Hunter to a two-year, $26 million contract.

The deal was reported Wednesday and has now become official. It’s quite a bit to pay a guy that will turn 38 at midseason next year, but Hunter stays in great shape and is coming off a season where he batted .313/.365/.451 with 16 home runs, 92 RBI and nine stolen bases. He’ll be the everyday right fielder for the Tigers in 2013 and should stay reasonably productive.

Jerry Crasnick of ESPN.com reports that Torii Hunter left his visit with the Tigers without a formal offer, but “several officials” still see Detroit as the frontrunner for him.

As one NL official told Crasnick, “(Tigers GM) Dave Dombrowski usually gets his man.” Hunter has drawn a lot of interest on the open market, but the Tigers really want him and he reportedly would like to play for them. The veteran outfielder is expected to decide on a new club soon.

Danny Knobler of CBSSports.com was told by a source that Torii Hunter “wants to play” with the Tigers.

Hunter was in Detroit on Tuesday to meet with Tigers officials. The club has yet to make him an official contract offer, but it’s possible he could get one during the visit. The 37-year-old outfielder has reportedly drawn interest from upwards of 13-14 teams and is expected to land a multi-year deal.

Jon Paul Morosi of FOXSports.com reports that free agent outfielder Torii Hunter is meeting with Tigers officials in Detroit on Tuesday.

The number of teams who have reportedly expressed interest in Hunter is into the double-digits, but the Tigers have emerged as the favorite in recent days. It’s not clear if Tuesday’s meeting means a signing is imminent, but Mark Saxon of ESPN Los Angeles reported Monday that the veteran outfielder is expected to make a decision within the next two weeks. He should be able to land a two-year contract.

A source told Mark Saxon of ESPN Los Angeles that the Dodgers are “out” on free agent Torii Hunter.

The Dodgers have Carl Crawford, Matt Kemp and Andre Ethier locked into long-term deals, so there was never much of a fit anyway. The Tigers, Braves, Phillies and Red Sox have also been linked to the veteran outfielder since free agency officially got underway. Hunter should be able to find himself a two-year deal.

Mark Saxon of ESPNLosAngeles.com reports that the Tigers have been the “most aggressive pursuer” of Torii Hunter and are likely to offer him a two-year deal.

Saxon also adds that the Yankees have shown “serious interest” in the outfielder, which conflicts with a previous report from CBS Sports’ Danny Knobler. The Braves, Phillies, Red Sox and Dodgers also have interest. Hunter is expected to make a decision on who to sign with within the next two weeks.

Danny Knobler of CBSSports.com reports that the Tigers and Rangers are interested in Torii Hunter.

Knobler says the Tigers are “very interested” and view Hunter as “almost a perfect fit in their lineup, in the field and also in the clubhouse.” Hunter expects to sign with someone quickly and says his only concern is winning a World Series. Detroit and Texas are certainly fits in that regard. The Braves, Phillies and Red Sox also have interest, while the Yankees and Dodgers are seen as less likely destinations for the 37-year-old outfielder.
