Tommy Hanson (shoulder) expects to have zero limitations at the start of spring training.

Hanson has been on a throwing program since early January and continues to build the strength of his prized right arm. “It feels better now than it did [in December],” he said Thursday. “I’m definitely a lot more optimistic now than I was even last month.” The 25-year-old is a fantasy ace when healthy.

Braves general manager Frank Wren said Wednesday that he expects Tommy Hanson (shoulder) to be ready for spring training.

“He feels great, doing really well,” said Wren. “Our expectations are he comes into spring training ready to go.” Hanson was limited to just 22 starts last season due to right shoulder discomfort, though no structural damage was found. Many fantasy owners will likely shy away due to health concerns, so he could prove to be an excellent value pick on draft day.

Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe reports that the Braves may have to hold on to Jair Jurrjens now due to concerns about Tommy Hanson’s shoulder.

Jurrjens has been known to be on the trade market, but if the Braves are truly worried about Hanson, dealing Jurrjens might prove to be too risky. Hanson initially started having shoulder issues in mid-June and wound up making just eight starts the rest of the way, with the last one coming on August 6. Exams never revealed any structural damage, though, and the Braves have indicated that they thought he’d be fine after an offseason of rest. It will be interesting to see how Hanson is feeling in spring training.
