Ryan Zimmerman went hitless in four at-bats in Tuesday’s 6-1 loss to the Padres.

It’s been a rough season for Washington’s third baseman, and it’s only mid-May. Since returning from the DL on May 8, Zimmerman is 7-for-29 (.241) with one extra-base hit and one RBI. His OPS is down to .668 through 87 at-bats.

Nationals activated 3B Ryan Zimmerman from the 15-day disabled list.

As expected. Zimmerman’s return should provide a nice boost for an offense which just lost Jayson Werth to wrist surgery and is still missing big bopper Michael Morse. The 27-year-old was hitting .224/.324/.345 with one homer and a .668 OPS over 68 plate appearances prior to hitting the DL last month with a sore right shoulder.

Ryan Zimmerman (shoulder) took live batting practice Sunday with the Nationals.

Zimmerman will do so again on Monday and is scheduled to come off the disabled list on Tuesday. “I already hit before so this is more now getting out and seeing the ball and trying to get as many swings before Tuesday and kind of get back into it,” he said. Zimmerman has declared himself “100 percent.”

Ryan Zimmerman (shoulder) is scheduled to take live batting practice Sunday with the Nationals.

Zimmerman declared himself ”100 percent” after going through tee work and taking 30 swings of soft toss. If all works as hoped, he could be activated from the disabled list Tuesday.

Ryan Zimmerman (shoulder) has not ruled out a Sunday return, but Tuesday is more likely.

Zimmerman has swung off a tee at 75 percent with no discomfort. He will take batting practice on Saturday and see how his body responds. It sounds like the Nats are going to play it safe and hold him out until Tuesday.

Nationals manager Davey Johnson said Ryan Zimmerman (shoulder) won’t be activated from the disabled list until at least Tuesday.

Zimmerman had hoped to be back on Sunday, but he apparently won’t be quite ready by then. He’ll hit off a tee for first time Friday and has already been playing catch. Zimmerman will not requite a rehab assignment.

Ryan Zimmerman (shoulder) is aiming to return to the Nationals’ starting lineup on Sunday night.

Zimmerman has been sidelined since April 21 with a sore right shoulder. But he played catch Tuesday and should begin hitting soon. “As long as I take groundballs and throw and stay in shape, hitting takes only two days,” the third baseman told reporters. The Nats are scheduled to take on the rival Phillies on ESPN’s Sunday Night Baseball.

Ryan Zimmerman (shoulder) began throwing Tuesday.

And he’s expected to begin hitting this weekend. Zimmerman is eligible to return from the disabled list Sunday but could need a few extra days. The third baseman has been out since April 21 with a sore right shoulder.

Ryan Zimmerman has been placed on the 15-day disabled list with an inflamed AC joint in his right shoulder.

Zimmerman is not believed to need much time, if any, than the disabled list allows. Chad Tracy, Mark DeRosa, and Steve Lombardozzi will continue to split time at third base in the short-term.
