Phillies general manager Ruben Amaro said Ryan Howard has already lost “a significant amount of weight” during his offseason conditioning program.

Howard put on some weight while recovering from Achilles surgery and never got back down to where the Phillies would like him to be. He’ll have time to return to ideal playing shape this offseason, and it sounds like he’s off to a good start. The soon-to-be 33-year-old batted .219/.295/.423 batting line with 14 home runs over 71 games this season.

Ryan Howard homered for the fourth consecutive game in a losing effort against the Braves on Saturday afternoon.

Howard finished the day 1-for-4. His solo blast was one of just two hits off Braves? starter Mike Minor, and pulled the Phillies to within 7-2 in the fourth inning, but that was as close as they would get. He’s still hitting just .229 and has fanned 91 times in just 245 at-bats, but Howard’s power has surely returned with 14 bombs and 55 RBI in his first 66 games.

Ryan Howard smashed a grand slam homer and drove home five, leading the Phillies in a 16-1 rout over the Mets in New York on Thursday.

Howard finished the evening 2-for-6 with a homer, two runs scored and five RBI. He’s still struggling to make consistent contact, hitting just .228 (54-for-237), but his impressive power has certainly returned. He’s homered in each of his last two contests and now has 12 bombs and 53 RBI on the season. At 32-years-old, Howard should continue to be an elite run producer for several more seasons.

Ryan Howard hit a two-run homer in Wednesday’s 3-2 win over the Mets.

Howard’s 11th bomb of the season was a go-ahead blast in the ninth inning. He had yet to go deep in the month of September (16 games) entering this evening. Batting .225/.303/.416, Howard is due an average of $23.8 million over the next four seasons. He’ll turn 33 in November.

Ryan Howard clubbed a grand slam in a loss to the Mets on Tuesday night.

It was his only hit on the night. Howard has nine home runs and 29 RBI in 43 games since returning from the disabled list, so he continues to do enough to have value in mixed leagues, but he’s hitting just .244 overall. He probably won’t be back to 100 percent until next season.

Ryan Howard went 1-for-4 with an RBI double as the Phillies fell to the Brewers on Friday.

The average is low at .231, and the at-bats haven’t been consistent yet, but Howard has at least displayed some power since his return from the DL with seven homers, four doubles and 20 RBI over 33 games. The most important thing though, is that he’s healthy, and he should continue to drive home runs the remainder of the season.

Ryan Howard is not in Wednesday’s lineup against the Marlins.

The struggling Howard will get the day off with the early start time. Ty Wigginton will make the start at first base and bat cleanup against left-hander Mark Buehrle.

Ryan Howard went 2-for-3 with a home run, walk and two RBI in Sunday’s 11-inning win over the Cardinals.

Howard took Lance Lynn deep for a solo home run in the fourth, which was good for his third blast in five games. He’s now gone deep seven times in 29 contests since coming off the disabled list. There’s still work to be done on his .230/.313/.470 slash, however.

Ryan Howard went 2-for-4 with a three-run homer in Wednesday’s loss to the Braves.

Howard’s fifth-inning bomb off Tim Hudson was his second in as many nights, and sixth in 26 games since coming off the disabled list. Howard is sporting a rough .215/.298/.462 slash, but perhaps his past two games are a sign he’s finally settling into a groove coming off a major injury.
