Royals optioned RHP Vin Mazzaro to Triple-A Omaha.
Mazzaro limited the Rangers to three runs over five decent innings Wednesday night, but he won’t be needed for a little while. The righty should be back up eventually.

Royals optioned RHP Nate Adcock to Triple-A Omaha.
Adcock was only up in the major leagues for a couple of games this time around. He’ll be shuttled back and forth between Omaha and the bigs several more times this year.

Jonathan Broxton blew his second save of the season in Wednesday’s 15-inning loss to the Orioles, allowing two runs on four hits in the ninth inning.
Tasked with protecting a 3-1 lead, Broxton allowed a one-out solo shot to Wilson Betemit before serving up three singles (one of which plated the tying run) in between recording the final two outs. An ugly outing, but Broxton had converted seven straight save opportunities with relatively little fuss coming into this evening. His job isn’t in danger.

Felipe Paulino tossed seven shutout innings in Wednesday’s 15-inning loss to the Orioles, allowing just five hits while striking out nine.
He walked two. Paulino has now notched at least six strikeouts in each of his first three starts this season, and is the owner of a 1.93 ERA and 1.12 WHIP through his first 18 2/3 innings. After striking out 119 batters in 124 2/3 innings last season, he’s firmly on the mixed-league radar.

Eric Hosmer went 0-for-7 in Wednesday’s 15-inning loss to the Orioles.
Hosmer’s latest brutal night makes him just 9-for-59 in the month of May, and leaves him with a borderline unfathomable .174/.237/.319 triple slash on the season. We still expect Hosmer to ultimately make himself useful in mixed leagues this season, but there’s no reason for him to be in your starting lineup outside of deeper AL-only leagues for the time being.

Chris Getz left Wednesday’s game with a bruised left rib following a collision at first base with the Orioles’ Chris Davis.
He should be considered day-to-day for the time being. Irving Falu replaced him at second base.

The Royals have promoted outfielder-third baseman Wil Myers and right-hander Jake Odorizzi from Double-A Northwest Arkansas to Triple-A Omaha.
Well deserved on both counts. Myers, who Baseball America ranked as the No. 28 prospect in the game over the winter, was hitting .343/.414/.731 with 13 homers, 30 RBI and a 1.146 OPS through his first 152 plate appearances. Odorizzi, who was ranked as the organization’s No. 4 prospect by Baseball America over the winter, had a 3.32 ERA and 47/10 K/BB ratio in 38 innings over his first seven starts this year. Both are on the fast track to the big leagues.

Mike Moustakas connected on his fifth home run of the season as the Royals defeated the Rangers 7-4 on Tuesday.
He finished the night 1-for-2 plus a walk, and also scored two runs. He’s now hitting an impressive .310 on the season with five homers and 16 RBI, showing off the tremendous promise and offensive potential that he possesses. At just 23 years of age, he’s an extremely special hitter and one who should be very good for a very long time.

Vin Mazzaro picked up the win in his first start of the 2012 season Tuesday, limiting the Rangers to three runs on seven hits over five innings of work.
Mazzaro struck out two and walked one. With as bad as the Royals’ rotation has been for the majority of the season, he’ll likely stick around to make at least one more start. Which would come on Sunday against the Diamondbacks. Mazzaro has very little upside and can be ignored for fantasy purposes.

Jonathan Broxton converted his seventh straight save chance Monday, giving up a hit but striking out two in a win over the Rangers.
Broxton has made a stunning turnaround after he blew up in a blown save back on April 11 when he looked like he wouldn’t be long for the job. Since then, he’s allowed just one run over 11 appearances while nailing down all of his save chances. His job is very secure right now.
