Nationals signed RHP Ross Ohlendorf to a minor league contract.

Ohlendorf was outrighted off the Padres’ 40-man roster in the fall after posting an ugly 7.77 ERA and 1.77 WHIP over 48 2/3 innings in 2012. He will function as organizational pitching depth in 2013 for the Nats.

Ross Ohlendorf has elected free agency.

Ohlendorf had been outrighted by the Padres but refused the assignment. The veteran right-hander will now look for a new home after posting an ugly 7.77 ERA and 1.77 WHIP over 48 2/3 big league innings this season.

Padres sent RHP Ross Ohlendorf outright to Triple-A Tucson.

Ohlendorf still has an option year left on his contract, but the Padres removed him from the 40-man roster. The 30-year-old posted a 7.77 ERA in 13 appearances (nine starts) earlier this season.

Padres optioned RHP Ross Ohlendorf to Triple-A Tucson.

Ross Ohlendorf yielded eight runs in 2 1/3 innings Friday in a loss to the Giants.

One would imagine Ohlendorf’s tenure in the San Diego rotation has come to an end. This is the third time in four outings that he’s given up at least six runs without recording more than nine outs. He’s 4-4 with a 7.58 ERA.

Staked with a 5-0 lead, Ross Ohlendorf was horrendous against the Pirates Sunday, allowing seven runs (six earned) on five hits and three walks in just three innings of work.

The low-point came in the fourth, where Ohlendorf surrendered a grand slam to the light-hitting Clint Barmes. Ohlendorf allowed six of his seven runs in the fourth, failing to record an out in the process. He’s now allowed at least six runs in two of his past three starts, ballooning his ERA from 5.05 to 6.41. He can’t be trusted in NL-only leagues.

Ross Ohlendorf surrendered two runs — one earned — on three hits six innings Tuesday in a victory over the Cubs.

He struck out three and walked a batter. Despite turning in three straight quality starts prior to his previous implosion, Ohlendorf still sits with a horrific 5.61. His strong evening — against a terrible offense — Tuesday shouldn’t dissuade NL-only owners from ignoring him.

Ross Ohlendorf was pounded for six runs in 1 2/3 innings by the Reds on Thursday.

Ohlendorf had turned in three straight quality starts, but two of those were in Petco and the other was in Miami; facing the Reds in Cincy was his toughest assignment so far and he flopped. It’s doubtful that he’ll be replaced right away, but he’s not a good bet to last the final two months in the San Diego rotation.

Ross Ohlendorf delivered his third straight quality start in Saturday’s loss to the Marlins, allowing three runs on four hits over his six innings.

Ohlendorf fanned four while walking two in the game. The major blemish on his evening was Jose Reyes’ two-run homer in the third inning, increasing the Marlins lead to 3-0 at the time. Though he’s not a very attractive streaming option in most mixed leagues, he does hold some value if skimming his home starts. However, he’s a difficult play in any format this week, taking on the Reds in Cincinnati on Thursday.
