Mike Napoli (Rangers)

5/22/12 5:45 am

Mike Napoli went 0-for-2 with a walk in Monday’s 6-1 loss to the Mariners.

After an explosive April in which he smacked seven home runs — featuring a five game stretch in which he amassed six longballs and 11 RBI — Napoli has been far too pedestrian in May. This month he is batting 13-for-59 (.220) with no dingers and only four RBI. However, he remains one of the most dangerous hitting catchers in the game, and is bound to snap out of his funk before too long.

Mike Adams (Rangers)

5/22/12 3:16 am

Mike Adams returned to action on Monday May 21.

Yu Darvish (Rangers)

5/22/12 12:48 am

Yu Darvish was wild against the Mariners on Monday, walking six and giving up five runs — four earned — in four innings to take a loss.

Darvish has struggled in both of his starts against Seattle, though he got a win despite giving up five runs the first time he faced them. Of course, he wasn’t matched up against Felix Hernandez in that one. The six walks tonight was a new high for him, and five strikeouts matched his low. He’s now 6-2 with a 3.05 ERA.

Neftali Feliz (Rangers)

5/21/12 6:48 pm

Rangers general manager Jon Daniels said Neftali Feliz has a ulnar collateral ligament sprain in his right elbow.

His injury had been described just as inflammation. It’s always concerning when the UCL is involved, but evidently Feliz’s ligament isn’t bad enough to require surgery. He’ll be shut down for at least a month and isn’t expected to return to the Rangers until after the All-Star break.

Neftali Feliz (Rangers)

5/21/12 5:35 pm

Neftali Feliz (elbow) could be sidelined until the All-Star break.

Feliz was placed on the disabled list Monday with right elbow inflammation. He’ll be shut down for a month, after which he’ll begin a throwing program. This will likely sideline him until the All-Star break, if not longer. The 24-year-old right-hander was facing an innings limit in his first season in the rotation anyway, so this might not be the worst thing for him given that there’s no structural damage. Scott Feldman will take his spot in the starting rotation and is worth adding in AL-only formats.

Michael Kirkman (Rangers)

5/21/12 4:44 pm

Michael Kirkman was diagnosed with a form of skin cancer in January.

Kirkman is allowed to participate in full baseball activity while undergoing treatment and is expected to make a full recovery. The 25-year-old left-hander has made 29 appearances in the majors over the past two seasons and has a 6.68 ERA and 33/24 K/BB raito over 31 innings as a starter and reliever this year with Triple-A Round Rock.

Rangers recalled RHP Yoshinori Tateyama from Triple-A Round Rock.

Tateyma has registered a sparkling 0.54 ERA in 16 2/3 innings this year at the Triple-A level. The 36-year-old from Japan will operate in middle relief for Texas.

Neftali Feliz (Rangers)

5/21/12 2:13 pm

Rangers placed RHP Neftali Feliz on the 15-day disabled list with a right elbow injury.

Feliz reported discomfort in his elbow over the weekend after going just 4 2/3 innings against the Astros and underwent a precautionary MRI on Monday morning. The results of that exam aren’t yet available, but the Rangers have already decided to play it safe with their 24-year-old flamethrower. Scott Feldman will fill his rotation spot Wednesday against the Mariners.

Mike Adams (Rangers)

5/21/12 8:44 am

Mike Adams (chest) was available on Sunday.

Adams was diagnosed this past weekend with a respiratory infection, but he’s been prescribed medication and will work through it. “I’m getting better,” the 31-year-old setup man told reporters Sunday.

Colby Lewis (Rangers)

5/20/12 4:33 pm

Colby Lewis narrowly missed a shutout in Sunday’s 6-1 win over the Astros, allowing one run on four hits in eight innings of work.

He struck out six, and also managed to go 2-for-4 with two RBI at the plate. Lewis came out to take a shot at a shutout in the ninth, but was yanked after serving up a leadoff home run to Jed Lowrie. It was a much needed outing for Texas’ No. 2 (or is it No. 3?) starter after he allowed at least six runs in each of his past three outings. He’ll bring a 3.30 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and 53/9 K/BB ratio into his weekend start against the Blue Jays at home.
