Jimmy Rollins (Phillies)

5/22/12 10:44 am

Phillies placed SS Jimmy Rollins on the paternity leave list.

Rollins was out of the lineup on Monday after his wife gave birth to their first child on Sunday. A player can be on the paternity leave list for 24 to 72 hours. Freddy Galvis and Mike Fontenot will handle middle infield duties for now.

Kyle Kendrick (Phillies)

5/21/12 9:03 pm

Kyle Kendrick pitched well in a loss Monday, limiting the Nationals to two runs on five hits and two walks over seven innings.

He struck out four and served up a longball to Ian Desmond. Kendrick was fighting it in the early innings but eventually settled in to pitch a nice game. Other than one bad start in Arizona, he’s been pretty serviceable since taking Vance Worley’s spot in the rotation and will take a 5.23 ERA and 1.53 WHIP into St. Louis this weekend.

Roy Oswalt (Phillies)

5/21/12 7:03 pm

Rangers general manager Jon Daniels wouldn’t rule out a pursuit of Roy Oswalt following the injury to Neftali Feliz (elbow).

Feliz is likely out at least until the All-Star break, and it’s possible he might not be ready to start when he does return. The Rangers will fill his spot with Scott Feldman for now, but they’re not committed to him long-term. Oswalt threw for the Rangers last Friday and reportedly would like to sign on with someone soon.

Cole Hamels (Phillies)

5/21/12 5:26 pm

Phillies general manager Ruben Amaro, Jr. said Monday that he remains in contact with Cole Hamels’ agent.

“It’s been pretty open,” said Amaro. “We’ve kept it open. We haven’t made any timelines. I haven’t gotten any from them.” While the communication lines are open, there’s no indication that the two sides have made progress. Hamels, who is due to hit free agency this winter, reportedly wants a seven-year deal and should have no problem finding it on the open market. The 28-year-old southpaw has a 2.48 ERA over his first eight starts this season.

Vance Worley (Phillies)

5/21/12 3:51 pm

Vance Worley (elbow) will see Dr. James Andrews on Monday.

The visit is for precautionary reasons, as Worley is dealing with a bone chip in his right elbow and will likely require offseason surgery. The 24-year-old is expected to resume throwing this week.

Jimmy Rollins (Phillies)

Jimmy Rollins is not in Monday’s lineup.

Rollins’ wife gave birth on Sunday night, so he’s presumably unavailable. Freddy Galvis will start in his place at shortstop while Mike Fontenot plays second base.

Placido Polanco (knee) is back in the Phillies’ starting lineup Monday against the Nationals.

Polanco hasn’t played since fouling a ball off his left knee last Wednesday. The 36-year-old is hitting .279/.311/.357 with one home run, eight RBI and a .668 OPS in 138 plate appearances this season.

Domonic Brown (hamstring) was back in the starting lineup at Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Sunday.

Brown suffered a left hamstring strain earlier this month and hadn’t appeared in a game since May 7. The 24-year-old is batting .240/.279/.344 with zero home runs in 104 plate appearances this year at the Triple-A level.

Placido Polanco (Phillies)

5/21/12 8:00 am

Placido Polanco (knee) was out of the Phillies’ lineup Sunday for a fourth straight game.

Polanco fouled a ball off his left knee Wednesday. He was able to pinch hit Saturday but was still battling discomfort by the start of Sunday’s game. “When I run, I feel it,” said the third baseman. “It’s sore. But it’s getting better. It’s getting better, and it’s a day-to-day to thing.”

Cliff Lee (Phillies)

5/20/12 4:17 pm

Cliff Lee didn’t have it in Sunday’s Interleague loss to the Red Sox, allowing five runs on nine hits in seven innings.

Lee struck out six, walked one and served up a pair of home runs, one a three-run bomb off the bat of Jarrod Saltalamacchia. The non-quality start was just his second in six outings this season. Still searching for his first win, Lee will bring an excellent 2.66 ERA, 0.86 WHIP and 40/5 K/BB ratio (through 44 innings) into his Friday start in St. Louis.
