White Sox manager Robin Ventura said Sunday that Orlando Hudson will play primarily at the hot corner.

Hudson agreed to a deal with the White Sox on Saturday and is expected to join up with the team Tuesday. “(Third base is) probably more of where he would play with Gordon (Beckham) being at second,” Ventura told reporters. “He might be able to fill in there later, give (Beckham) a day off here or there.” Brent Morel is headed to the disabled list with a bulging disk in his back.

White Sox manager Robin Ventura said Orlando Hudson could join the team on Tuesday.

Hudson still hasn’t officially signed on with the Palehose, but Ventura has acknowledged the pending acquisition. O-Dog will back up Gordon Beckham at second base and could see some time at the hot corner if Brent Morel (back) requires a stint on the DL.

Orlando Hudson is expected to serve as a backup infielder for the White Sox, according to MLB.com.

Hudson agreed to terms with the White Sox Saturday but hasn’t yet finalized the agreement. The 34-year-old batted just .211/.260/.317 with five triples and 11 RBI prior to his release from the Padres. Hudson has never played another position outside of second base, but he is expected to get time at third in addition to backing up Gordon Beckham.

MLB.com’s Peter Gammons reports Orlando Hudson is expected to sign with the White Sox.

Hudson was given his unconditional release from the Padres on Thursday, and will likely compete with the struggling Gordon Beckham for regular at-bats at second base in Chicago. Hudson batted just .211/.260/.317 with five triples and 11 RBI prior to his release from San Diego. If signed, the White Sox would likely be responsible for a prorated amount of his salary.

Andrew Baggarly of CSNBayArea.com anticipates the Giants taking a “hard look” at signing the recently released Orlando Hudson.

Baggarly was also told by Giants vice president Bobby Evans that the club has “put out feelers” for potential infielders available via trade. Hudson batted just .211/.260/.317 with one homer for the Padres this season before being released Thursday, and his defense isn’t nearly as good as it used to be. But, the Giants just might be desperate enough to give him a shot.

Padres released 2B Orlando Hudson.

ESPN’s Keith Law first reported that Hudson was designated for assignment, but the Padres have actually requested release waivers, which is a mere formality before he can sign with any team. The 34-year-old was a massive disappointment during his time in San Diego, batting just .238/.313/.344 with a .657 OPS over 585 plate appearances. However, we’re sure somebody will take a chance on him at the major league minimum. Alexi Amarista has been called up from Triple-A and should get most of the playing time at second base moving forward.

Keith Law of ESPN.com reports that the Padres have designated Orlando Hudson for assignment.

The Padres have yet to make an official announcement, but the writing has been on the wall for a while now. Hudson has batted just .238/.313/.344 since joining the Padres and the recently-acquired Alexi Amarista lingers as an alternative in the minor leagues. The Padres would still be responsible for the remainder of Hudson’s $5.5 million salary this year and his $2 million buyout in 2013, so the 34-year-old shouldn’t have any trouble drawing interest at the major league minimum. Stay tuned.

Orlando Hudson ripped a solo homer in Wednesday’s loss to the Nationals.

It was his only hit in four at-bats, but Hudson now has an eight-game hitting streak going that’s pushed his average from .097 to an even .200. Obviously, that’s still nothing to write home about, but it could quiet the whispers that O-Dog might lose his second base job.

Scott Miller of CBSSports.com reports the Padres are prepared to release Orlando Hudson if he ”doesn’t turn things around soon.”

If true, the Padres would be forced to eat the remainder of Hudson’s $5.5 million contract this year and a $2 million buyout option in 2013. Miller notes that Hudson’s tenure could ”coincide with the return of Logan Forsythe,” who underwent ankle surgery in March. Hudson, 34, is hitting just .156/.191/.200 with one stolen base in 47 plate appearances this season.

Orlando Hudson (hip) was scratched from Thursday’s Cactus League lineup due to illness.

Hudson has been sidelined since last Wednesday due to tightness in his hip and pelvic region. He was originally expected to return to the lineup Thursday, but it looks like we’ll have to wait for at least another day.
