Wei-Yin Chen (Orioles)

5/15/12 9:03 pm

Wei-Yin Chen continued his strong start to the season on Tuesday, allowing just two runs on four hits over seven innings in a win against the Yankees.

Chen walked two and struck out four in the game. The lone blemish on his night was a two-run homer surrendered to Curtis Granderson in the seventh inning. With the victory, Chen improves to 4-0 on the season and now sports an impressive 2.66 ERA. He’ll look to keep the momentum going when he takes on the Nationals in Washington on Sunday. At this point, the left-hander should be owned and started in most mixed fantasy leagues.

Jason Hammel (Orioles)

5/15/12 7:57 pm

Jason Hammel said he doesn’t feel any pain in his knee following Monday’s outing and is on track to make his scheduled start Saturday against the Nationals.

Hammel struggled Monday, giving up five runs ? four earned ? on seven hits and three walks over five innings, but he’s feeling fine physically. “I felt fatigue from just not being on my feet,” said Hammel, who has been receiving daily treatment on his knee. “But other than that, no pain, no soreness or stiffness.” Hammel holds a 2.68 ERA and 1.10 WHIP over seven starts this season.

Nolan Reimold (Orioles)

5/15/12 7:53 pm

Orioles manager Buck Showalter said Nolan Reimold receiving a second epidural injection for his neck is likely at this point.

“Every day, you are hoping he takes that step,” Showalter said. “I’d be less than forthcoming if I didn’t think that the possibility of a second injection isn’t a probability.” Reimold was put on an anti-inflammatory steroid medication and given the first injection on May 11, but he’s still dealing with some tingling in his left thumb and discomfort in the left forearm/shoulder area. At this point, Reimold is unlikely to make it back before June.

Brian Roberts (Orioles)

5/15/12 7:43 pm

Mel Antonen of Sirius-XM Radio reports that Brian Roberts (concussion) is “making good progress” and will travel with the Orioles to Kansas City for their series starting Wednesday.

Antonen cautions, though, that there’s still no timetable for Roberts’ return. The 34-year-old has made multiple road trips already this season, so we’re not sure how much progress he’s really made, but at least we haven’t heard about any setbacks recently. At this point, with the O’s and Robert Andino playing well, Roberts is no safe bet to be a starter whenever he does make it back.

Matt Lindstrom (Orioles)

5/15/12 3:34 pm

Matt Lindstrom was diagnosed Tuesday with a partial tear of the rear ligament in his right middle finger.

Lindstrom told reporters Monday that the injury was a sprain, but it’s a bit more serious than that. The right-handed reliever was placed on the disabled list last week and could be on it for well over a month.

Zach Britton (Orioles)

5/15/12 2:35 pm

Zach Britton (shoulder) threw four scoreless innings Tuesday in extended spring training.

Britton mixed in all of his pitches while allowing two hits and striking out four. He threw a total of 47 pitches in the outing before tossing 20 more in the bullpen. The young left-hander still needs to go out on a minor league rehab assignment, but he’s currently on track to join the Orioles’ rotation in mid June.

Nolan Reimold (Orioles)

5/15/12 2:32 pm

Nolan Reimold (neck) is scheduled to be reexamined later this week.

Reimold’s neck is feeling better since receiving an epidural injection, but he is now dealing with pain in his left thumb, forearm and shoulder. There are no current plans for a second epidural injection, but he’s still nowhere close to returning from the disabled list. Hopefully we’ll have a idea on his timetable by the end of the week.

Joel Pineiro (Orioles)

5/15/12 2:04 pm

Joel Pineiro is going on the disabled list with Triple-A Norfolk due to a sore right shoulder.

Pineiro signed a minor league deal with the O’s last month and had a 3.65 ERA over his first two starts with the Tides. It was a worthwhile gamble, but he can’t be relied on at this point.

Jason Hammel returned to action on Monday May 14.

Mark Reynolds (Orioles)

5/14/12 10:58 pm

Mark Reynolds is headed to the Orioles’ complex in Sarasota, Florida on Tuesday to rehab his strained left oblique.

Reynolds was placed on the disabled list over the weekend after injuring his oblique during batting practice on Friday. It’s possible he’ll be ready to return when he’s first eligible, though oblique injuries can linger. The free swinger is hitting just .191/.324/.337 with two homers and 36 strikeouts in 108 plate appearances this year.
