Mat Gamel (Brewers)

5/22/12 10:12 am

Mat Gamel underwent surgery Tuesday to repair a torn ACL in his right knee.

Gamel also had surgery to repair a debridement of the lateral meniscus. He will miss the rest of the season. Travis Ishikawa, Taylor Green, Corey Hart and Brooks Conrad have all seen time at first base since his injury and the Brewers could eventually go outside the organization for a more stable solution.

Scott Podsednik (Red Sox)

5/22/12 9:57 am

Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com reports that the Red Sox have called up outfielder Scott Podsednik from Triple-A Pawtucket.

Not a big surprise, as both Cody Ross (foot) and Ryan Sweeney (concussion) are expected to be placed on the disabled list Tuesday. Podsednik, who was acquired from the Phillies earlier this month, is hitting .323 (10-for-31) with one homer and two stolen bases over his first nine games with the PawSox. The 36-year-old outfielder hasn’t appeared in the majors since 2010 as a member of the Dodgers.

Kevin Slowey (Indians)

5/22/12 9:54 am

Kevin Slowey was placed on the 7-day disabled list with Triple-A Columbus due to a right lat strain.

Slowey, who was acquired from the Rockies in January, has a 5.14 ERA over his first eight starts this year at the Triple-A level. The timetable for his return isn’t yet clear.

Cole DeVries (Twins)

5/22/12 9:34 am

The Twins will purchase the contract of right-hander Cole DeVries prior to Tuesday’s game.

He’ll fill Jason Marquis’ spot in the rotation beginning Thursday. DeVries, a Minnesota native, has a 4.24 ERA and 37/7 K/BB ratio in 46 2/3 innings over eight starts at the Triple-A level this year. He’s no sure thing to stick, so the 27-year-old can be ignored outside of deeper AL-only leagues.

Jason Marquis (Twins)

5/22/12 9:29 am

Twins designated RHP Jason Marquis for assignment.

As expected. The Twins signed Marquis to a one-year, $3 million contract over the winter, but he’s getting the boot after posting an awful 8.47 ERA through his first seven starts this season. However, we suspect he won’t have any trouble finding a new home once he’s available at the league minimum. Cole DeVries will be called up from Triple-A Rochester to replace him in the starting rotation.

Adam Lind (Blue Jays)

5/22/12 8:48 am

Adam Lind went 2-for-4 with a double and a home run Monday with Triple-A Las Vegas.

Lind has three hits in seven at-bats in two games since his demotion last week. We’d be stunned if he didn’t hit well in the Pacific Coast League. Perhaps his trade value could increase if he gets off to a hot start.

Miguel Montero doesn’t expect to miss much time after leaving Monday’s game with a left groin strain.

“A day or two, I don’t think more than that, we’ve got two more games here, then a day off Thursday. I don’t know we’ll see,” said Montero. “I didn’t get worse, I wanted to stay in the game to be honest, they just took me out of the game for precautionary reasons.” Veteran backstop Henry Blanco will fill in behind the plate for now.

Ryan Braun (Brewers)

5/22/12 7:55 am

Ryan Braun (groin) is not sure if he’ll be ready to return to the starting lineup Tuesday.

Braun left Monday’s game after the 10th inning due to right groin tightness. While the injury isn’t serious, he may need a day or two to rest. “We’ll see how it feels tomorrow,” said Braun.

Pedro Beato (Mets)

5/22/12 7:42 am

Pedro Beato (shoulder) allowed one hit and struck out two in a scoreless inning for High-A St. Lucie on Monday in his second minor league rehab appearance.

Beato, who began the year on the DL with rotator cuff inflammation, tossed two hitless innings in his first appearance on Saturday. The Mets may option him to Triple-A Buffalo once he has built up enough arm strength, but he figures to find his way back to the big leagues before long.

Bryan LaHair (Cubs)

5/22/12 7:32 am

Cubs manager Dale Sveum said he’ll likely give Bryan LaHair the day off Tuesday for a “mental break.”

LaHair started the season red-hot, mostly due to a ridiculously fortunate batting average on balls in play, but he’s hitting just .250 this month and .191 (9-for-47) over his last 13 games. He should still have value in mixed leagues moving forward, but we hope you sold high.
