Miguel Olivo (groin) is expected to begin a minor league rehab assignment with Triple-A Tacoma on Monday.

The Mariners’ current plan calls for Olivo to catch Monday, DH Tuesday, and possibly rejoin the team on Thursday. The 33-year-old catcher has been on the disabled list since May 1 with a right groin strain. He was batting just .210/.229/.346 in 23 games prior to the injury.

Miguel Olivo (groin) took swings in the cage, ran on a treadmill and made some throws at a distance of 90 feet on Monday.

Olivo will try to block pitches behind the plate in a few days and may begin catching bullpen sessions during the team’s upcoming four-city road trip. The 33-year-old backstop is eligible to come off the disabled list in eight days, but he’s unlikely to return until the end of the month. Jesus Montero and John Jaso will continue to split catching duties for now.

Mariners placed C Miguel Olivo on the 15-day disabled list with a right groin strain.

Olvio acknowledged to reporters Tuesday that the strain is worse than the one he suffered last year, meaning he could be looking at a month-long absence. Jesus Montero seems likely to be more active behind the plate while the veteran is sidelined.

Miguel Olivo (groin) will be placed on the disabled list.

Olivo left Monday’s game against the Rays with a right groin strain. He told reporters that the injury is worse than the one he suffered during spring training last year, so it would be a surprise if he’s ready to return when he’s first eligible. Jesus Montero and John Jaso are expected to split catching duties while Mike Carp (shoulder) is likely to return from the DL and replace Olivo on the active roster.

Updating a previous item, Miguel Olivo was diagnosed with a strained right groin.

Olivo exited Monday’s game in the ninth inning due to the injury. No official word from the team on his status moving forward, but a stint on the disabled list is a real possibility. The M’s could activate Mike Carp in that case while Jesus Montero and John Jaso would share playing time behind the plate.

Miguel Olivo left Monday’s game against the Rays in the bottom of the ninth inning with an apparent groin injury.

Olivo went 2-for-4 with a solo homer before exiting. The Mariners moved Jesus Montero behind the plate, so they’ll lose the DH spot for the rest of the ballgame. Stay tuned for an update on Olivo’s status.

Miguel Olivo went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Sunday’s loss to the Blue Jays.

Seattle’s slow-footed catcher also managed to steal his first base of the season. His second bomb of the year was his second in four games. Hitting .195/.215/.299, Olivo isn’t looking primed to be a mixed-league asset during his age-34 season.

Miguel Olivo went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts as Seattle’s DH on Friday, dropping his average to .130.

Olivo isn’t this bad, but the Mariners would likely be better off moving on and allowing Jesus Montero and John Jaso to share time behind the plate. Even if Montero doesn’t pan out as a catcher, it’s not as though Olivo is coming back next year anyway, and having him DH is just embarrassing.

Miguel Olivo was given the night off Wednesday.

It’s just a routine off day for the Mariners’ primary catcher. Jesus Montero will handle receiving duties.
