Braves and OF-INF Martin Prado avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year contract.

David O’Brien of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that the deal is worth $4.5-5 million. Prado, who was arbitration-eligible for the second time this winter, earned $3.1 million last season while batting .260/.302/.385 with 13 homers, 57 RBI and a .687 OPS. The 28-year-old has been the subject of numerous trade rumors this offseason, but currently projects to be the starting left fielder for the Braves in 2012.

According to FOX Sports’ Ken Rosenthal, the Blue Jays want Martin Prado but trade talks haven’t gone well.

Rosenthal says the two organizations “do not match up” because Atlanta seeks a powerful left fielder in return and Toronto doesn’t have one. Prado has also drawn interest from the Rockies, Tigers and Twins. He’s likely to be shopped heavily at this week’s Winter Meetings in Dallas, Texas.

Jon Heyman of SI.com reports that the Braves want “good prospect(s)” in addition to Seth Smith from the Rockies in a deal for Martin Prado.

It’s been speculated that the Braves would want either Tim Wheeler or Charlie Blackmon along with Smith, but so far the Rockies are unwilling to part with either prospect. It appears that the deal isn’t dead yet, but obviously there’s work to do. Heyman says that other teams are in the mix for Prado, as well.

According to MLB.com’s Mark Bowman, Martin Prado will not be traded this winter for Delmon Young.

A “small minority” of GM Frank Wren’s staff has been pushing for the Braves to acquire Young for the past two years, but that effort has been thwarted by other (wiser) memebrs of the Atlanta front office. The Braves are likely to continue shopping Prado, but the Tigers might not be a fit.

According to FOX Sports’ Jon Paul Morosi, the Tigers have expressed trade interest in Martin Prado.

Prado has also drawn phone calls from a couple of other teams this offseason. Morosi says the Tigers are viewing him as a potential leadoff man and are willing to trade outfielder Delmon Young if it will help to get a deal done. Prado, 28, batted .260/.302/.385 with 13 home runs and 57 RBI in 129 games this year for Atlanta.

According to Troy Renck of the Denver Post, the Rockies have contacted the Braves about the availability of Martin Prado.

Renck writes that the Rockies scouted Prado extensively last season and view him as a solution at second base. Of course, he also has experience at third base, another area of need for Colorado. The clubs have yet to exchange names, but Renck suggests Seth Smith and Charlie Blackmon as possible fits for Atlanta. The versatile Prado earned $3.1 million this season and is arbitration-eligible for the second time this winter.
