Mark Teixeira (inflamed bronchial airways) is back in the Yankees’ starting lineup Monday.

Interestingly, he’s starting out of the seventh spot for the first time since his rookie season in 2003. Teixeira was able to pinch hit in the ninth inning of Sunday’s loss. The 32-year-old first baseman told reporters this weekend that he is resigned to the fact that he’s going to have to play through some discomfort.

Mark Teixeira (inflamed bronchial airways) returned to the field Sunday after missing three starts.

Pinch-hitting for Eric Chavez in the ninth and facing Aroldis Chapman, Teixeira reached first on Wilson Valdez’s throwing error. He was then pulled for a pinch-runner. Both Teixeira and skipper Joe Girardi said the veteran would start on Monday. “Not 100 percent, obviously, but I think it did some good and I’m looking forward to playing tomorrow,” Teixeira said. “I think at this point we know we’re going to have to deal with it for a little while. The days off definitely helped, and we’ll see how it goes tomorrow, but I’m just going to have to play through a little discomfort for a while.” Teixeira has been battling the issue all season. You can safely get him back into your weekly lineup.

Mark Teixeira could miss a third straight start Sunday due to his severely inflamed bronchial airways.

“I said, ?You know, we?ve tried to give you a day off when there’s a scheduled day off and you haven?t gotten better, so we?ll give you a day off and may give you [today] to see if we can knock this bronchial problem out,?” Yankees manager Joe Girardi said. Teixeira has been batting the issue all season, and the team is unsure how to treat it and doesn’t know when he’ll be 100 percent again. “We?ve tried everything,” Teixeira said. “That’s why rest is the last effort here. I?ve taken more medicine than I?d liked to. I think I?m done with that option. Rest is kind of the final option.”

Mark Teixeira doubled and blasted a two-run homer in Monday’s win over the Orioles.

The longball, which was his fifth of the season, proved to be the winning runs. It’s only Teixeira second homer in the last 20 games, and he’s still batting a paltry .231. He’ll wind up with another 30-homer season, but the average will probably stay down around where it’s been the last two years.

Mark Teixeira was diagnosed Wednesday with “severely inflamed bronchial airways.”

It’s a condition that has been affecting his breathing all season. He has been prescribed a non-anabolic steroid and should begin feeling better within days. The 32-year-old first baseman is batting .217/.270/.374 with four homers and 17 RBI through 126 plate appearances this season.

Mark Teixeira is currently dealing with a bad case of congestion.

Teixeira saw a chest specialist Wednesday and underwent a CT scan, a lung test and a breathing test. He was told that everything was fine and normal, other than the congestion. He’s in the lineup Wednesday, so there doesn’t appear to be anything to be alarmed about.
