Luke Scott called his left hamstring pull “mild,” but isn’t sure when he’ll return to the starting lineup.

Scott left Sunday’s game due to the injury. He doesn’t think he’ll be out for long, so it’s probably safe to call him day-to-day right now. Jeff Keppinger will serve as the club’s designated hitter on Tuesday against the Tigers.

Luke Scott went 2-for-3 with a homer as the Rays’ designated hitter on Saturday.

Scott hit leadoff, but that was just to get him at extra at-bat before he left the game. Since he’s still recovering from shoulder surgery and isn’t ready to do anything except DH, he’ll probably see a lot of action in minor league games during the final couple of weeks of the spring.

Rays manager Joe Maddon said Thursday that Luke Scott (shoulder) won’t play the field during any spring training games.

Scott is working his way back from shoulder surgery, so the Rays don’t want to push him too soon. The 33-year-old is 0-for-4 over his first two spring games. He is expected to serve as the club’s primary designated hitter this season.
