Indians signed INF Jose Lopez to a minor league contract.
The deal includes an invitation to spring training. Lopez, 28, batted just .216/.245/.372 with eight home runs, 21 RBI and a .617 OPS over 242 plate appearances this past season for the Rockies and Marlins. He’ll try to win a bench role in spring training but probably will begin the year at Triple-A.

Paul Hoynes of the Cleveland Plain-Dealer confirms that the Indians are talking to free agent infielder Jose Lopez about a minor league deal.
Jon Paul Morosi of FOXSports.com reported Tuesday night that the two sides were having “serious discussions” about a contract. Lopez, 28, batted just .216 with a .617 OPS over 242 plate appearances in 2011 between the Rockies and Marlins. While he hasn’t been even moderately productive for a couple years now, he could carve out a role as a platoon player during spring training.
