Angels avoided arbitration with RHP Jerome Williams by agreeing to a one-year, $2 million contract.

Williams, who made $820,000 last season, was in his second year of arbitration. The right-hander will be used as a long reliever this year after posting a 4.58 ERA across 137 2/3 innings in 2012.

Mike DiGiovanna of the Los Angeles Times reports that the Angels are expected to tender a contract to right-hander Jerome Williams.

The Angels are also expected to tender contracts to designated hitter Kendrys Morales, third baseman Alberto Callaspo and reliever Kevin Jepsen. Some pegged Williams as a non-tender candidate after he posted a disappointing 4.58 ERA in 137 2/3 innings this season, but the Angels are short on starters at the moment.

Jerome Williams was knocked around in a spot start against the Athletics on Tuesday, allowing four runs on five hits in just 3 1/3 innings.

Williams walked one and struck out four in the contest. Yoenis Cespedes blasted a solo homer off him in the second inning, and Brandon Moss added a two-run bomb before he departed in the fourth. He’s been a disappointment to the Angels this season, posting a 6-8 record and 4.75 ERA over 125 innings. With Jared Weaver healthy enough to make his next start, Williams is likely to return to the long relief role in the bullpen for the remainder of the season.

Jerome Williams gave up five runs and nine hits in six innings Thursday in a loss to the Tigers.

Garrett Richards looked awfully strong in his start against the Tigers, so it’s likely Williams will be shifted to the pen to make room for Dan Haren this weekend. Williams has lost five straight starts to fall to 6-7 with a 4.85 ERA for the season.

Jerome Williams returned from the disabled list Saturday and gave up five runs over six innings in a loss to the Yankees.

Williams allowed seven hits, including two-run homers by Robinson Cano and Curtis Granderson. He also gave up an RBI single to Cano in his final inning of work. The 30-year-old right-hander has allowed 19 runs over his last four major league starts, raising his ERA from 3.68 to 4.67 in the process. He should be left inactive outside of AL-only leagues for now.

Angels activated RHP Jerome Williams from the 15-day disabled list.

Williams will return to start Saturday against the Yankees. The 30-year-old right-hander has been sidelined since collapsing in the clubhouse following his outing on June 18 due to a combination of asthma and anxiety. He remains a useful option in AL-only leagues and in certain matchups in mixed leagues, but fantasy owners would be wise to leave him inactive considering that his first start back is a pretty tough matchup.

Jerome Williams (chest) will return from the disabled list to start Saturday against the Yankees.

Williams has been sidelined since collapsing in the clubhouse following his outing on June 18 due to a combination of asthma and anxiety. He allowed three runs (two earned) over six innings last Friday in his most recent rehab start with Triple-A Salt Lake. C.J. Wilson is slated to start the second-half opener on Friday while Jered Weaver will get the ball on Sunday.

Angels manager Mike Scioscia said Jerome Williams (chest) will rejoin the rotation after the All-Star break.

It wasn’t a sure thing a couple weeks ago, but with Dan Haren (back) on the DL and Garrett Richards in the minors, Williams was fully expected to get his spot back. The breathing issue that landed him on the DL with last month is under control. “I try to work on my breathing and just not panic,” Williams said.
