Twins signed RHP Jason Marquis to a one-year, $3 million contract.

Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com reported Wednesday that the two sides were close to a deal. Marquis, 33, posted a 4.43 ERA and 76/43 K/BB ratio over 132 innings between the Nationals and Diamondbacks in 2011 before he suffered a fractured right fibula in mid-August. He’s not going to blow anybody away (career 5.2 K/9), but induces ground balls more than 50 percent of the time and should eat some innings at the backend of the Twins’ rotation.

According to FOX Sports’ Ken Rosenthal, the Twins are close to signing free agent Jason Marquis.

Marquis, 33, posted a decent 4.43 ERA in 23 starts this past year for the Nationals and Diamondbacks, striking out 76 batters and issuing 43 walks in 132 innings. He’s not much of a fantasy option, but the 33-year-old right-hander should bring quality depth to the back end of the Twins’ starting rotation. The Mets had also expressed interest.

Ken Davidoff of New York Newsday reports that the Mets are interested in free agent right-hander Jason Marquis.

Davidoff writes that the Mets view him as a replacement for Chris Capuano, who is aiming for a multi-year contract this winter. Marquis, 33, posted a 4.43 ERA over 23 starts this season between the Nationals and Diamondbacks before he suffered a fractured right fibula in mid-August. It could be a good fit, as the Staten Island native will likely look for a one-year deal in hopes of reestablishing his value and hitting the free agent market again next offseason.
