Twins designated RHP Jason Marquis for assignment.

As expected. The Twins signed Marquis to a one-year, $3 million contract over the winter, but he’s getting the boot after posting an awful 8.47 ERA through his first seven starts this season. However, we suspect he won’t have any trouble finding a new home once he’s available at the league minimum. Cole DeVries will be called up from Triple-A Rochester to replace him in the starting rotation.

Jon Paul Morosi of FOXSports.com reports that the Twins will designate Jason Marquis for assignment.

Marquis was pounded to the tune of eight runs over 1 2/3 innings Sunday against the Brewers and now owns a brutal 8.47 ERA through 34 innings through seven starts this year. The Twins signed him to a one-year, $3 million deal over the winter, but it appears they are ready to throw in the towel. Despite his struggles, it shouldn’t take long for him to find a new home once he can sign at the league minimum.

Jason Marquis got pounded into oblivion in Sunday’s 16-4 loss to the Brewers, allowing eight runs in just 1 2/3 innings.

This is really starting to get ugly. Marquis had already allowed at least four runs in four of his first six starts, but hadn’t yet failed to complete four innings of work. His latest disaster leaves him with an 8.47 ERA and 1.94 WHIP through 34 innings. Those numbers are in addition to a pathetic 12/14 K/BB ratio. Despite his $3 million salary, Marquis won’t be long for the rotation if this keeps up much longer.

Jason Marquis struggled through five innings against the Indians on Tuesday, surrendering five runs and three homers.

Marquis gave up two runs in four innings before Shin-Soo Choo, Asdrubal Cabrera and Carlos Santana all hit solo homers in the fifth. Marquis is now 2-3 with a 6.68 ERA for the season. It was a surprise when an AL team signed him over the winter, and it certainly hasn’t paid off for the Twins thus far.

Jason Marquis was hit hard by the Blue Jays on Thursday, giving up six runs (five earned) on seven hits over just four innings of work.

Marquis struck out two and walked three in the game. With as bad as the entire Twins rotation has been, Marquis is in no immediate danger of losing his spot in the rotation, but his 6.26 ERA is still atrocious on any level. He’ll attempt to turn his season around when he battles the Indians at home on Tuesday.

Jason Marquis allowed three runs on six hits in six innings of Sunday’s 7-4 win over the Royals.

Marquis struck out one, walked none and allowed a solo home run to Mike Moustakas. The quality start is Marquis’ first in three outings after he got tagged for at least four runs in each of his first two starts. He’ll bring a 6.23 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 7/2 K/BB ratio (compiled in 17 1/3 innings) into his Saturday start in Seattle.

Jason Marquis was knocked around in a loss to the Red Sox Monday, giving up five runs on 11 hits over 6 1/3 innings.

He received a no-decision, as Jon Lester wasn’t any better, but Marquis was very hittable, which is no surprise. He’s allowed nine runs over his first 11 1/3 innings as a Twin and has been taken deep three times. The veteran will face the Royals next.

Jason Marquis got off to a rocky start in his first outing of 2012, but settled down to allow four runs on seven hits in five innings of Minnesota’s 6-5 win over the Yankees.

Marquis allowed three first-inning runs before escaping from a bases-loaded jam. He went on to allow just four more baserunners. Marquis won’t be any sort of a mixed-league star this season, but making half of his starts in pitcher-friendly Target Field, he should at least be serviceable. He’ll get the Red Sox at home next Monday.

Twins recalled RHP Jason Marquis from Double-A New Britain.

Marquis will make his first start of the season Wednesday against the Yankees. The veteran right-hander missed a couple weeks during spring training while tending to his daughter, who was involved in a serious bicycle accident. The good news is that she is doing much better. Marquis pitched well in his two minor league tune-up outings, allowing three runs over 14 innings (1.93 ERA) while striking out 11 and walking none.
