Huston Street (lat) is expected to start throwing soon.

Street landed on the disabled list earlier this month with a right lat strain. There’s no clear timetable for his return. Dale Thayer will continue to hold down the closer role for now.

Huston Street (lat) isn’t sure when he’ll return, but says it’s “not a long timetable.”

“There’s no specific timetable,” Street said. “It’s not a long timetable. I’ve done this enough to take it day-by-day. You know you’re gone 15 days and will re-evaluate it in 15 days. I wish it could be quicker.” Padres manager Bud Black mentioned Andrew Cashner, Luke Gregerson and even Dale Thayer as options to close while Street is out. We fully expect Cashner to be the guy.

Padres placed RHP Huston Street on the 15-day disabled list with a right lat strain.

The good news, is that an MRI revealed that the injury was just a strain and not something more serious that would require surgery. Andrew Cashner is the most likely candidate to fill in as the Padres closer in Street’s absence, and should be picked up in all formats.

Updating an earlier item, Huston Street has been diagnosed with a right lat injury.

Street will get an MRI on Saturday but told reporters he doesn’t think it’s “anything major.” While a stint on the disabled list is still the most likely outcome, it appears he’ll avoid a more significant injury. Andrew Cashner will be moved into the closer’s role in the short-term and should be owned in fantasy leagues.

Huston Street was diagnosed with a right posterior shoulder strain after leaving Friday’s game in the ninth inning.

A DL trip seems like a given for Street. Our best guess is that he’s put on target for an early June return, assuming that the MRI he’s sure to undergo shows up nothing more severe than the strain. Andrew Cashner is probably the favorite for saves in San Diego at the moment, though Luke Gregerson could factor in if the youngster struggles.

Huston Street came out of Friday’s game in the ninth inning with an undisclosed injury.

Jim Bowden likely still thinks the Red Sox should give up a couple of top prospects for him. Street waved in the trainer after walking Logan Morrison in a tie game tonight against the Marlins. It’s likely an arm problem, so those with a roster spot open might want to grab Andrew Cashner as a saves candidate.

Huston Street nailed down his first save as a Padre Wednesday, tossing a perfect ninth inning while striking out one.

He set down the top of the order 1-2-3, getting a strikeout and a couple cans of corn. Street has now spun three perfect innings with his new team, striking out one guy in each outing. We’re expecting a nice bounce-back year from the veteran closer.

Huston Street tossed a scoreless inning of relief in Saturday’s loss to the Dodgers.

Street has yet to be presented with a save opportunity because the Padres picked up their lone win in commanding fashion. The 28-year-old righty should be a reliable fantasy closer throughout the 2012 campaign.

Padres acquired RHP Huston Street and cash considerations from the Rockies for a player to be named player.

The deal is now official and the Rockies could cover up to $1 million of his remaining salary. Street is owed $7.5 million next season while his contract includes a $9 million option for 2013 or a $500,000 buyout. The 28-year-old right-hander will replace Heath Bell as the closer in San Diego and should do quite well with the spacious dimensions of PETCO Park. Look for him as a value pick in mixed leagues on draft day.

Updating a previous item, Jayson Stark of ESPN.com reports that the deal between the Rockies and Padres involving Huston Street is not done.

Joel Sherman of the New York Post reported that the deal was official, but that’s apparently not the case. In fact, Stark hears that the Rockies are talking to at least one other team. Stay tuned.
