Glen Perkins tallied his 15th save of the season Tuesday in the Twins’ 5-4 defeat of the Yankees.

Perkins surrendered a solo home run to Andruw Jones but retired the other three batters he faced, racking up two strikeouts. The left-hander has been highly effective since taking over the ninth-inning gig from Matt Capps and should remain valuable in mixed fantasy leagues through the end of the season.

Glen Perkins slammed the door on the Indians on Saturday, retiring all three hitters he faced to preserve a Twins victory.

Perkins has successfully converted each of his last seven save chances, though he continues to be used mainly against left-handed hitters. He’s been the Twins’ finest reliever this season, boasting a 2.54 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 66/15 K/BB ratio over 60 1/3 innings.

Glen Perkins was charged with his first blown save as the Twins’ closer after giving up three unearned runs in the ninth Sunday against the Rangers.

It’s on Perkins that he couldn’t pick up his shortstop, but it was Brian Dozier’s inning-opening error that started the Texas rally. Perkins gave up four hits afterwards so he deserves plenty of blame for how things went wrong. Still, he’s been a definite upgrade for the Twins since replacing the injured Matt Capps.

Glen Perkins made things interesting Monday night, but notched a save in a 6-4 win over the Tigers.

Perkins struck out Quintin Berry to start the ninth, but then gave up consecutive singles to Miguel Cabrera and Prince Fielder. However, he was able to get Dmitri Young to fly out and Brennan Boesch to strike out swinging to escape. He should continue to split save chances with Jared Burton while Matt Capps (shoulder) is sidelined.

Glen Perkins tossed two scoreless innings of relief in Minnesota’s 5-4, 15-inning victory against the Brewers on Sunday.

After Nick Blackburn allowed four runs over six innings, Minnesota’s bullpen — generally regarded as one of the game’s least talented — hurled nine shutout innings to salvage the win. Perkins only has fantasy worth in formats that count holds, but he has continued to establish himself as a valuable setup man this year, posting a 3.14 ERA and 1.34 WHIP. If Matt Capps is dealt at the trade deadline, as many expect, Perkins is likely to become Minnesota’s closer.

Twins manager Ron Gardenhire said Glen Perkins was unavailable Friday because he fell down the stairs and hurt his leg.

That explains it. The full extent of the injury isn’t yet known and it’s not clear if he’ll be available Saturday, either.

Glen Perkins (forearm) has been cleared to return to action and is expected to be available out of the bullpen Thursday.

The left-hander threw a 40-pitch bullpen session Wednesday morning without any issues and then flew to New York to meet his team. “We got great news on Perk,” Twins manager Ron Gardenhire said. “He threw a 40-pitch session out there in the bullpen there in Minnesota, and everything went great. He didn’t feel anything, and the doctor said he looks great.” Perkins last pitched on Sunday.

Glen Perkins (forearm) could be available to pitch by Thursday or Friday.

Perkins experienced some discomfort around his left forearm late last week, but an MRI on Monday revealed only inflammation and no ligament damage. He is scheduled to rejoin the team Wednesday in New York.
