Mariners signed LHP George Sherrill to a one-year contract.

The deal, which is expected to be worth around $1.1 million in base salary, was reported earlier this month and is now official. Sherrill, 34, posted a 3.00 ERA and 1.25 WHIP over 36 innings in 2011 for the Braves while holding left-handed batters to a .256/.275/.333 batting line. He’ll be used as a lefty specialist for the M’s in 2012.

According to CBS Sports’ Jon Heyman, the Mariners and lefty George Sherrill have reached a deal.

It’s a one-year contract, thought to be worth around $1.1 million in base salary. Sherrill, 34, posted a 3.00 ERA and 1.25 WHIP over 36 innings in 2011 for the Braves while holding left-handed batters to a .256/.275/.333 slash line. He’ll serve a lefty specialist in 2012 for Seattle.

The Mariners are on the verge of bringing back LHP George Sherrill on a one-year, $1 million contract, according to ESPN’s Jason Churchill.

The deal is pending a physical. Sherrill started his career with the Mariners before being shipped to Baltimore as part of the Erik Bedard deal. He posted a 3.00 ERA with a 38/12 K/BB ratio over 36 innings in a renaissance year with the Braves this past season.

Jon Paul Morosi of FoxSports.com reports that the Royals, Phillies, Blue Jays and Mariners are interested in free agent reliever George Sherrill.

Sherrill spent the first four seasons of his career with the M’s before being shipped to Baltimore as part of the Erik Bedard deal. He bounced back from a rough 2010 to post a 3.00 ERA while striking out over a batter per inning in 2011 with the Braves.

Jon Paul Morosi reports that the Mariners have “checked in” with George Sherrill to see if he’s interested in returning to Seattle.

Sherrill spent the first four seasons of his career with the M’s before being shipped to Baltimore as part of the Erik Bedard deal. He bounced back from a rough 2010 to post a 3.00 ERA while striking out over a batter per inning in 2011. Morosi says the Rockies also have interest in the lefty.
