Fernando Rodney slammed the door on the Braves Saturday, picking up his 13th save of the season with a perfect ninth inning.

Rodney’s resurgence continues to baffle. He’s 2-0 and 13-for-13 in save conversions. He also owns a ridiculous 0.46 ERA, 0.81 WHIP and 19/3 K/BB rate over 19-plus innings. This is the same guy who’s only had an ERA under 3.50 once in his 10-year career and only been under 4.25 twice. We don’t know how long he’ll keep it up, but he’s certainly stolen Kyle Farnsworth’s job for good, barring a complete meltdown.

Fernando Rodney slammed the door on the Blue Jays on Tuesday, picking up his 11th save of the season with a perfect ninth inning.

Rodney fanned two of the three hitters he faced, and now boasts a spectacular 0.51 ERA and 17/3 strikeout to walk ratio in 17 2/3 innings. With as well as Rodney has pitched, he may keep his job even once Kyle Farnsworth eventually returns from the DL.

Fernando Rodney improved to 9-for-9 in save chances with a perfect inning Thursday against the Mariners.

Rodney has identical 0.73 ERAs and WHIPs after 14 appearances. We’re not sure how they do it, but the Rays certainly do have quite a way with seemingly washed up relievers.

Fernando Rodney recorded his fifth save of the season in as many tries as the Rays defeated the Twins on Saturday.

James Shields pitched into the ninth inning but allowed runners to reach second and third with no outs before Rodney was called upon to close it out. He responded in kind and easily diffused the situation, locking up the Rays’ win. Rodney has been impressive in his brief stint as Tampa Bay’s closer.

Fernando Rodney got two outs against the Red Sox on Monday for a save in 1-0 game.

Rodney has pitched a full inning in just one of his four saves, but that hardly matters to his fantasy owners. After coming in with one out and a man on first today, he allowed a groundout that advance the runner, he intentionally walked David Ortiz and then he struck out Cody Ross with five pitches out of the strike zone. No, Ross wasn’t chasing; Rodney was simply given the outside corner and then some by Larry Vanover.

For the second time in two days, Fernando Rodney earned a one-out save on Sunday to help propel the Rays to an opening weekend sweep of the Yankees.

Rodney had to throw four pitches on Sunday as opposed to only one on Saturday. While it would be nice to think that the 35-year-old will continue to close out games so effortlessly, his track record and bullpen competition probably make him one of the biggest sell-high candidates in baseball.

Fernando Rodney earned a save Saturday in the Rays’ 8-6 defeat of the Yankees.

Rays manager Joe Maddon has been telling reporters that he plans to use a committee of closers while Kyle Farnsworth recovers from his elbow strain. And while Rodney got the nod on Saturday, it was only a one-batter appearance and it came after a sudden late rally by the Yanks. Joel Peralta is probably still the guy to own for fantasy purposes.

Fernando Rodney pitched a hitless inning of relief for a win Tuesday against the Twins.

On merit, Joel Peralta would be the favorite for saves in the Tampa Bay pen if Kyle Farnsworth begins the season on the DL. Another manager might prefer Rodney’s closing experience and give him the job, but we don’t expect it to play out that way with Joe Maddon in charge. That said, Rodney hasn’t been bad with a 2.45 ERA this spring, even if it does come with a 4/5 K/BB ratio in 7 1/3 innings.

Fernando Rodney (forearm) is scheduled to throw in a game Tuesday.

Rodney left a game last Wednesday after being hit in the forearm with a comebacker, but he made it through a bullpen session Sunday with no issues. He should be fine for Opening Day and is expected to pitch in a set-up role this season.

Fernando Rodney (forearm) completed a bullpen session Sunday and is slated to return to game action Tuesday.

Rodney had to leave a game last week after a line drive caught him on the forearm, but he’s fine and fully expected to be available Opening Day. He’ll help set up for Kyle Farnsworth this season.
