According to Michael Silverman of the Boston Herald, the Red Sox are likely to hold a press conference on either Thursday or Friday to introduce Bobby Valentine as manager.
The Red Sox made the offer verbally while Valentine was in Japan, which means that the deal isn’t officially done. Bobby V is scheduled to return to the United States on Wednesday in order to dot the i’s and cross the t’s. It’s just a matter of time before he’ll officially be named the 45th manager in Red Sox history.

Gordon Edes of ESPN Boston confirms that Bobby Valentine will be named the Red Sox next manager.
The Red Sox are expected to make it official on Wednesday. Valentine was offered while he was away on personal business in Japan and immediately accepted. The 61-year-old has a 1117-1072 record (.510) over 15 years of managerial experience in the big leagues between the Rangers and Mets, but has been out of MLB since 2002. While he’ll inherit a very talented club from Terry Francona, his job will be to help rebound from one of the worst collapses in baseball history.

According to Peter Abraham of the Boston Globe, the Red Sox have denied a report that Gene Lamont is no longer a candidate for their managerial vacancy.
In fact, Lamont was told this afternoon that he is still in contention for the job. Bobby Valentine is the only other known candidate and many consider him to be the favorite. Perhaps we’ll finally have a resolution when Bobby V returns from Japan on Wednesday.

According to Karl Ravech of ESPN, Tigers third base coach Gene Lamont is no longer a candidate for the Red Sox manager job.
The Red Sox may have finally settled on Terry Francona’s replacement. While Bobby Valentine hasn’t been offered the job yet, Ravech writes that it “appears imminent.” The 61-year-old Valentine has a 1117-1072 record (.510) over 15 years of managerial experience in the big leagues between the Rangers and Mets, but has been out of MLB since 2002.

Sean McAdam of CSNNE.com was told by a “high-ranking baseball source” that various reports suggesting that the Red Sox plan to name a new manager Tuesday are “inaccurate.”
Joel Sherman of the New York Post wrote Monday night that belief in the industry is that the Red Sox will make a decision Tuesday, but if McAdam’s source can be believed, that may not be the case. It’s unclear what the hold-up might be, as former Mets and Rangers manager Bobby Valentine and Tigers third base candidates are the last two candidates standing.

According to Joel Sherman of the New York Post, the belief in the industry is that the Red Sox will make a decision Tuesday on their next manager.
Blue Jays first base coach Torey Lovullo is officially out of the mix, which means that former Rangers and Mets manager Bobby Valentine and Tigers third base coach Gene Lamont are the lone remaining candidates. Coincidentally, Bobby V is scheduled to return from Japan on Tuesday.

According to Joe McDonald of ESPN Boston, Blue Jays first base coach Torey Lovullo is no longer a candidate for the Red Sox manager job.
That’s been the assumption for a few days now, but it’s finally confirmed. Peter Abraham of the Boston Globe hears that no other candidates have been added to the mix, which means it’s down to Gene Lamont and Bobby Valentine. It’s not clear when a decision will be made, but most consider Bobby V the favorite.

Gordon Edes of ESPNBoston.com reports that the Red Sox have yet to offer their managerial job to Bobby Valentine.
Valentine has been back for a second interview, and various outlets have reported that he’s the favorite for the job, but, as of yet, no formal offer has been extended. The Red Sox are expected to name their new head man sometime this week. Tigers third base coach Gene Lamont is also under consideration, but all signs are pointing to Bobby V at this point.
