Todd Coffey (Dodgers)

2/3/12 8:12 pm

Dodgers signed RHP Todd Coffey to a one-year, $1.3 million contract with a $2.5 million club option for 2013.

Dylan Hernandez of the Los Angeles Times reports that he’ll make $1 million this season while the option includes a $300,000 buyout. Coffey saw decreases with his strikeout and ground ball rates last season with the Nationals, but still managed a 3.62 ERA over 69 appearances. Assuming Dodgers’ manager Don Mattingly uses him appropriately (keeps him away from lefty batters), the 31-year-old right-hander should remain an effective mid-to-late inning bridge.

James Loney (Dodgers)

2/1/12 3:27 pm

TMZ reports that the L.A. City Attorney’s Office is not pursuing a DUI case against James Loney “due to insufficient evidence.”

Loney was arrested in November after crashing his Maserati into three cars and exhibiting strange behavior at the scene. While he allegedly refused to take a breathalyzer, even spitting the mouthpiece back at the cops, a blood test came back negative for drugs and alcohol and he was never charged with a crime. The 27-year-old first baseman avoided arbitration with the Dodgers last month by agreeing to a one-year, $6.375 million contract.

Chris Pettit (Dodgers)

1/31/12 5:14 pm

Dodgers signed OF Chris Pettit to a minor league contract.

It’s not clear if the deal includes a spring training invite. Petit, a 27-year-old outfielder, was released by the Angels earlier this month after batting just .182 with a .587 OPS in 124 games between Double-A and Triple-A last season. He had seven plate appearances with the Angels back in 2009, but is likely to serve as organizational depth.

Ronald Belisario (Dodgers)

1/31/12 3:21 pm

Ronald Belisario has already arrived at Dodgers camp.

Belisario is hoping to make things right after failing a test for a drug of abuse and missing all of the 2011 season. The 29-year-old right-hander had a 2.04 ERA and 64/29 K/BB ratio in 70 2/3 innings as a rookie in 2009. He’ll have to serve a 25-game suspension this year before being considered for a 25-man roster spot.

Hong-Chih Kuo (Dodgers)

1/29/12 9:31 am

Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe reports that three West Coast teams are “kicking the tires” on free agent reliever Hong-Chih Kuo.

The oft-injured left-hander was non-tendered by the Dodgers last month, but he wouldn’t be a bad gamble for someone. Kuo posted a 9.00 ERA and 36/26 K/BB ratio over 27 innings this past season but is just one year removed from being one of the most dominant relievers in the game. He might only require a minor league deal.

Dee Gordon (Dodgers)

1/28/12 10:30 am

The Dodgers are expecting ”good things” from Dee Gordon this season, according to ESPN’s Buster Olney.

Gordon bounced back from a mid-season demotion with the Dodgers to post a .304/.325/.362 batting line in the month of September and looks to be primed for a breakout season in 2012. According to Olney, Gordon has been working out extensively with Barry Larkin and Juan Castro this winter.

Andre Ethier (Dodgers)

1/25/12 11:06 am

During an interview with Mark Willard of ESPN Radio 710 in Los Angeles, Andre Ethier said that his surgically-repaired right knee was an issue for two years.

“I’ve kind of dealt with this knee thing for the past two years, put it off for one off-season and then last season it just became a thing where a lot of things started multiplying and getting worse and something where I couldn’t quite get back my swing ? It was very frustrating and I learned a lot from that,” said Ethier. The 29-year-old homered just 11 times in 551 plate appearances last season, but we’re expecting his power to bounce back now that he’s healthy. He could be a nice value pick in mixed league drafts.

Clayton Kershaw (Dodgers)

1/17/12 6:15 pm

Clayton Kershaw requested $10 million and was offered $6.5 million by the Dodgers when arbitration figures were exchanged Tuesday.

The figure submitted by Kershaw would tie him with Ryan Howard for a player in his first year of arbitration eligibility. Tim Lincecum signed a two-year, $23 million contract in his first year of eligibility which included an $8 million salary in the first year and a $2 million signing bonus. Either way, Kershaw will be rewarded quite handsomely after winning the National League Cy Young Award last season.

James Loney (Dodgers)

1/17/12 1:53 pm

The Dodgers and 1B James Loney avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $6.375 million contract.

Loney was a potential non-tender candidate this offseason after another disappointing year at the plate, but the Dodgers decided to bring him back and will hope that he can improve in 2012. He batted .288/.339/.416 with 12 homers and 65 RBI in 2011.

Andre Ethier (Dodgers)

1/17/12 9:39 am

The Dodgers and OF Andre Ethier avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $10.95 million contract.

The deal also carries some performance-based incentives. Ethier’s production fell off a cliff in 2011, but the 29-year-old has enough talent to bounce back with a strong 2012. He earned a $9.25 million salary last season.
