Derek Jeter is not in the Yankees’ starting lineup Wednesday against the Blue Jays.

Just a day off for the Yankee captain. Jayson Nix will fill in at shortstop while Curtis Granderson slides into the leadoff spot.

Derek Jeter continued his torrid hitting, going 4-for-5 and scoring a pair of runs in a losing effort against the Royals on Thursday.

Among Jeter’s four hits, was his eighth double of the young season. He’s now hitting an astounding .404 on the year and is showing no signs of slowing down. Those who scooped up Jeter later in drafts this season appear to have quite the bargain.

Derek Jeter will serve as the Yankees’ designated hitter Thursday night against the Royals.

Just a way to give Jeter a little bit of a breather. Eduardo Nunez will make the start at shortstop Thursday while the newly-promoted Jayson Nix plays left field and Andruw Jones plays right.

Derek Jeter went 4-for-5 with an RBI and two runs scored in Monday’s win over the Rangers.

He had one double, with the rest of his base knocks being of the single variety. The only blemish on Jeter’s night was that he made his first error of the season, but we’ll forgive him given that he’s now sporting a .411 average for the year with a surprising four home runs.

Derek Jeter delivered a three-run homer and a double Sunday in the Yankees’ 11-5 victory over the Angels.

Jeter has two homers and four doubles already this season. As of May 7 last year, he had three doubles and no homers in 29 games. Needless to say, he’s off to one of his better starts in a while.

Derek Jeter went 4-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored in Monday’s win over the Orioles.

The Captain had no trouble squaring up Brian Matusz and the Orioles relievers in this one. Jeter pushed his average up to .412 on the young season after tonight’s outburst. He’ll be a solid, albeit unspectacular, fantasy option again in 2012.

Derek Jeter (calf) singled in his return to the lineup Friday.

Jeter hadn’t played since March 14 due to calf stiffness. He singled in his first at-bat in the bottom of the first inning and grounded into a double-play in the third before exiting. The plan calls for him to play three innings again on Saturday and five innings on Sunday. The 37-year-old shortstop should have no problem getting ready for Opening Day.

Derek Jeter (calf) is not in Tuesday’s lineup.

And he’s not expected to return to Grapefruit League action until Friday. Jeter came down with a sore left calf over the weekend and the Yankees are playing it safe. He should be fine for the start of the season.

Derek Jeter will be sidelined until at least Tuesday due to a sore left calf.

Jeter dealt with calf issues last season, but it was his right one. At this point it seems likely merely a precautionary move and nothing to worry about as long as he indeed returns early next week. Jeter batted .297/.355/.388 last season for the Yankees and will turn 38 in late June.

Speaking at Friday’s annual State of the Captain address, Derek Jeter told reporters he has no imminent plans of retirement.

“If I didn?t think I was capable of playing the game at a high level, I would go home,” Jeter said. “If I wasn?t enjoying myself, enjoying the competition, then it?d be time to go home. Right now, I think I?m capable, and I?m enjoying myself.” Questions remain as to whether Jeter can avoid a regression entering his age 37 season. His contract currently runs through 2014 with a player option.
