Chris Young (shoulder) told Jerry Crasnick of ESPN.com the he hopes to be pitching by April.

Young, a free agent, is working his way back from surgery to repair a torn capsule muscle in his right shoulder last May. “I’m pretty excited,” said Young. “My arm feels the best it has felt in quite some time.” Mets general manager Sandy Alderson has previously expressed interest in bringing the veteran right-hander back, though he would almost certainly have to accept a minor league contract.

Mets general manager Sandy Alderson said Thursday that the club would consider re-signing Chris Young (shoulder) “under the right circumstances.”

Joel Sherman of the New York Post reported in December that the Mets were interested in bringing back Young on a minor league deal and Alderson said Thursday that he recently met with the veteran right-hander in San Diego. Of course, Young is also coming back from surgery to repair a torn capsule muscle (the same surgery as Johan Santana), so it’s hard to count on him for anything.

Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports that the Mets are interested on bringing back Chris Young on a minor league contract.

Young posted an impressive 1.88 ERA in four starts for the Mets before suffering a torn shoulder capsule but is aiming to be 100 percent by the time spring training rolls around. The odds have him ever staying healthy for even close to a full season at this point probably aren’t high, but on an incentive-laden deal, we suppose it’s worth a shot.
