Troy Renck of the Denver Post reports that the Angels are expected to discuss a contract extension with new acquisition Chris Iannetta.
Not surprising. Iannetta can void a club option for 2013 since he was traded, and the Angels wouldn’t have dealt Tyler Chatwood for him if they thought he might just be around for one year. The 28-year-old will be owed $3.55 million for the 2012 season.

Angels acquired C Chris Iannetta from the Rockies for RHP Tyler Chatwood.
Iannetta, 28, produced a .370 on-base percentage, 14 home runs and 55 RBI in 112 games this past year for Colorado and should provide a nice spark of offense for Anaheim. The Angels are losing a bit of long-term rotation depth in Chatwood, but they had to make an upgrade behind the plate. It’s not a bad trade for either side, especially with the Rockies adding free agent catcher Ramon Hernandez in a corresponding move.

According to FOX Sports’ Ken Rosenthal, catcher Chris Iannetta is on the verge of being traded to the Angels for 21-year-old right-handed starter Tyler Chatwood.
The Rockies first need to finalize a free agent agreement with veteran catcher Ramon Hernandez, but that could happen within the next several hours. Iannetta posted a decent .785 OPS with 14 home runs and 55 RBI in 112 games this past year for Colorado. He’ll give the Angels a much-needed offensive boost at catcher. Chatwood registered a 4.75 ERA and 74/71 K/BB ratio across 142 major league innings in 2011.

Troy Renck of the Denver Post reports that the Rockies and Angels have discussed a trade involving Chris Iannetta.
In turn, Renck was told that the Rockies asked the Angels about the availability of prospect right-hander Tyler Chatwood. It’s one of many possibilities, as the Angels are talking to multiple teams about a catcher, but Renck reported Monday that the Rockies would only be willing to deal Iannetta if they sign free agent Ramon Hernandez.
