Mariners signed INF Carlos Guillen to a minor league contract.

The deal includes a spring training invite. Guillen, who previously played with Seattle from 1998-2003, batted just .232/.265/.368 over 102 plate appearances last season with the Tigers. The 36-year-old can’t be counted on as an everyday player anymore, but the switch-hitter could be a decent bat off the bench.

Enrique Rojas of ESPN Deportes Los Angeles reports that the Royals, Marlins, Twins, Athletics, and Mariners are interested in free agent infielder Carlos Guillen.

Guillen batted just .232/.265/.368 over 102 plate appearances this past season for the Tigers and probably can’t be counted on for an everyday role at this point with his checkered injury past. The 36-year-old could be a low-risk, potentially moderate reward if he did manage to stay healthy, though.

According to FOX Sports’ Jon Paul Morosi, the Marlins have free agent interest in Carlos Guillen.

Guillen has struggled to stay healthy in recent years and batted just .232/.265/.368 over 102 plate appearances this past season for Detroit. But the Marlins are likely viewing him as a decent high-risk, high-reward option for an infield utility role. The Tigers aren’t interested in re-signing him.

Tigers GM Dave Dombrowski acknowledged Tuesday that Carlos Guillen is unlikely to return next season.

Guillen batted just .232/.265/.368 in 102 plate appearances this year while earning $13 million. The Tigers are surely excited to have his contract off the books. Magglio Ordonez is also unlikely to return.
