The Twins will decide by Tuesday whether to start Carl Pavano Thursday on normal rest or give an extra day.

Pavano’s shoulder is feeling much better, but the Twins want to be careful. They could call up a spot starter on Thursday, though it’s not clear who that would be. Liam Hendriks is an option.

Carl Pavano is “feeling fantastic” and might not receive a cortisone shot for his right shoulder after all.

Pavano was pondering the shot due to inflammation in the shoulder that’s limited his range of motion and hurt his velocity. But, evidently he’s experienced significant improvement after working on strengthening the shoulder. The veteran right-hander has a 5.14 ERA in eight starts this year.

Carl Pavano will stay back in Minneapolis this week to continue strengthening his right shoulder.

Pavano allowed four runs over six innings Monday against the Indians as he continues to pitch through shoulder soreness. He’s still on track to make his next scheduled start Saturday against the Brewers, though it’s possible he may receive a cortisone shot. The veteran right-hander has a 5.14 ERA in eight starts this year and has failed to complete seven innings since April 16.

Carl Pavano wasn’t bad Monday in a no-decision versus the Indians, allowing four runs on six hits while striking out three over six innings.

He thew just 72 pitches in the outing but was given a quick hook likely because of the shoulder issues he’s been nursing lately. Pavano had said he might get a cortisone shot after the start, but, as of right now, he’s expected to take the ball Saturday against the Brewers with his 5.14 ERA and 1.27 WHIP intact.

Carl Pavano (shoulder) said he might get a cortisone shot after Monday’s start if pain in his right shoulder subsists.

Pavano underwent a precautionary MRI on his right shoulder over the weekend which revealed inflammation. He will send those results to another doctor to get a second opinion. Pavano has had some range of motion issues all season, which has led to declined velocity. If you rely on Pavano in an AL-only league, monitor Monday’s start. If the injury is more serious than has been let on — a Twins specialty — Pavano might need some time on the shelf. Clearly, the veteran isn’t overly concerned at this point.

Pavano has had some range of motion issues all season, which has led to declined velocity. He’s not in pain, though, and will make his scheduled start Monday. This is something to file away, as the veteran right-hander has obviously had his share of injuries in the past.

Carl Pavano could make it just four innings in Wednesday’s loss to the Angels, allowing five runs (four earned) on 10 hits.

Pavano struck out one and walked none in failing to complete at least six innings of work for the first time all season. Now 2-3 with a 5.02 ERA, Pavano is sporting a 1.30 WHIP and comical 20/6 K/BB ratio through 43 innings of work. He’ll get the Indians at home on Monday.

Carl Pavano yielded two runs and eight hits in six innings Friday in a win over the Mariners.

Pavano pulled off the rare feat of getting a win despite being outpitched. The Mariners led 2-0 until the top of the seventh, when the Twins rallied for three runs off Jason Vargas and Tom Wilhelmsen. Vargas was charged with just one run in 6 1/3 innings, giving him a better line than Pavano, but it was Pavano who got the victory in the 3-2 game.

Carl Pavano had a rough outing against the Royals on Friday, giving up four runs on six hits in his 6 1/3 innings.

Pavano walked one and didn’t record a strikeout in the game. He’s been unimpressive in the early part of the season, sitting with a 4.91 ERA and a 17/6 strikeout to walk ratio through his first 33 innings. The only value he has given to the Twins thus far has been as an innings eater. He’ll attempt to improve on this effort when he takes on the Angels in Los Angeles next week.

Carl Pavano pitched fairly well in a loss to the Rays on Saturday, allowing just three runs (two earned) on seven hits in his six innings of work.

Pavano even managed to rack up seven strikeouts while walking just two. He traded zeroes with James Shields until the sixth inning when B.J. Upton delivered a two-run single. He?ll look to carryover this solid performance when he takes on the Royals next week.
