The Giants have discussed the possibility of moving Buster Posey to first base ”at least once a week,” according to the Mercury News.

Posey is ”uncertain” how his surgically repaired left ankle will respond to baseball activities and the Giants don’t anticipate having a gauge on his durability until the end of the spring. Barring any setbacks, the 24-year-old is expected be 100 percent by the start of Opening Day.

Buster Posey (ankle) has added running to his workout regimen.

Posey mixed 30- and 60-yard sprints, agility drills and mild distance running into his routine three times per week after the new year. He did similar work once he could bear weight on the leg during the fall. “We’re just building him up right now,” said Groeschner. “So far, so good.” The plan calls for him to incorporate more baseball-specific elements in his running, such as turning corners to simulate rounding bases, in February. Barring any setbacks, the 24-year-old is expected to be 100 percent by the start of spring training.

Buster Posey (ankle) resumed throwing and hitting Tuesday.

Right on schedule. Posey was focused on cardiovascular work more recently, but performed the same baseball activities this fall at the Giants’ complex in Scottsdale. Barring any setbacks, the 24-year-old backstop should be ready for spring training.

Giants head athletic trainer Dave Groeschner said that Buster Posey (ankle) is currently doing cardiovascular work at his home in Georgia.

His workouts currently consist of riding a stationary bicycle and running on a treadmill. Posey will resume baseball-related activities in January, such as hitting, throwing and running on flat ground. He did the same activities this fall at the Giants’ spring training complex in Scottsdale. The team expects him to be ready when spring training begins in mid-February.

Buster Posey (ankle) ran corners earlier this week.

It’s a massive step in the right direction for Posey, who had been limited to straight-line running for the past several weeks. He’s fully expected to be ready for the start of spring training next February.
