Buster Posey went 3-for-4 with a double and RBI in Wednesday’s loss to the Cardinals.

The multi-hit night was just Posey’s third in 13 May starts, while the extra-base hit was his first of the month. Nevertheless, he’s still hitting a solid .295/.348/.443, and shouldn’t be expected to struggle to such a severe degree going forward.

Giants manager Bruce Bochy said Buster Posey’s surgically-repaired leg is feeling “a little cranky.”

It’s obviously not something you want to hear, but Bochy doesn’t seem concerned about his star catcher, so we’re not at this point, either. Posey, who is in a 3-for-26 slump at the plate, is getting a day off Sunday, but it sounds like he’ll be back in there Monday.

Buster Posey is not in the Giants’ lineup Wednesday.

It’s just a routine day off for the youngster. Posey’s surgically-repaired ankle is feeling fine, and it’s showed at the plate as he boasts a .333/.392/.569 batting line with four homers and nine RBI in 20 games. Hector Sanchez will start behind the dish Wednesday.

Buster Posey doubled and scored a run in Sunday’s 4-1 win over the Padres.

He also drew a walk. The extra-base hit was already Posey’s ninth of the season, while the RBI was his 10th. Posey seemed likely to get off to a slow start after seeing his 2011 cut short by a significant leg injury, but he’s instead come out hitting .353/.413/.603 through San Francisco’s first 22 games.

Posey has caught back-to-back games, so he’ll get somewhat of a breather. Hector Sanchez will start behind the dish Wednesday while Brandon Belt takes a seat.

Buster Posey will start at first base Friday against the Mets.

Hector Sanchez is paired with Friday’s starter Barry Zito, so this way the Giants will at least have Posey in the lineup. It also enables him to catch the day game on Saturday. Brett Pill will make his first major league start in left field on Friday.

Giants’ vice president of baseball operations Bobby Evans reached out to the agents for Buster Posey and Tim Lincecum on Monday.

The Giants inked Madison Bumgarner to a five-year extension on Monday which includes club options for 2018 (club/vesting) and 2019 (club), so the calls were made to send a message that they are still committed to locking up other core pieces. Posey will be arbitration-eligible for the first time this winter while Lincecum can become a free agent after the 2013 season.
