Brett Myers earned his 10th save of the season in Saturday evening’s 6-5 defeat of the Rangers.

Myers struck out Ian Kinsler, allowed a single to Elvis Andrus, then induced a double play ground ball out of Josh Hamilton. The right-hander is now 10-for-11 in save opportunities this season with a 1.93 ERA and 0.86 WHIP. He should have considerable trade value at the deadline.

Brett Myers improved to a perfect 8-for-8 in save opportunities on Tuesday night, protecting a one-run lead against the Marlins.

While many were skeptical over the Astros’ decision to shift Myers to the ninth inning role, he’s truly been a stabilizing presence at the back end of the bullpen. Along with his eight saves, he has a sparkling 0.93 ERA and has walked just one batter the entire season. With all of the closer turnover and injuries occurring around the league, Myers has become a surprisingly valuable commodity.

Brett Myers locked down his seventh save of the season against the Cardinals on Friday, needing just eight pitches to get through the ninth inning.

Myers has been extremely impressive in his role as the Astros closer, now a perfect 7-for-7 in save opportunities with an impressive 1.04 ERA. With so many teams around the league having problems at the back of their bullpens, trade rumors will continue to swirl around Myers until he is inevitably moved. Either way, he has the tools to succeed in the closer’s role regardless of what team he’s on.

Astros GM Jeff Luhnow told Houston’s FOX 26 that there’s “nothing to” reports of Brett Myers being shopped.

USA Today’s Bob Nightengale tweeted Saturday that the Astros had already made Myers available via trade and were hoping to take advantage of the many teams hampered by early-season closer issues. That kind of talk might be premature here in mid-April, but the 32-year-old right-hander is almost certain to be dealt at some point this season by the rebuilding ‘Stros.

According to USA Today’s Bob Nightengale, the Astros are shopping closer Brett Myers.

With the recent developments concerning Brian Wilson, it will be interesting to see if the Giants have any interest in Myers. Other teams with a void in their rotation may also be interested in Myers’ services. Those in fantasy leagues who have lost a closer recently may want to speculate on David Carpenter or Wilton Lopez, who would likely be the top candidates to close should Myers get traded.
