Randall Delgado was superb in a no-decision Monday, allowing just one unearned run on four hits and three walks over 6 2/3 innings in a loss to the Reds.

He struck out four. Delgado got off to a slow start, but he’s now pitched well in three straight outings to cement his spot in the rotation. He’ll carry an improving 3.79 ERA and 1.34 WHIP into Saturday’s outing against the Rays.

Tommy Hanson beat the Cardinals Sunday by allowing one run over five innings.

Hanson was forced to throw 97 pitches in his relatively short time on the hill, but he did strike out a season-high nine batters. It’s the most strikeouts he’s posted since fanning 14 Astros back in June of last season. Hanson hasn’t given up more than four earned runs in any of his eight starts this season and will face the Rays in interleague play next time out.

Freddie Freeman went 2-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI in Sunday’s win over the Cardinals.

Freeman continues to produce out of the three-hole in the Braves’ lineup. Over the last 12 games, he’s hitting .304 with two homers and 10 RBI. Freeman won’t be 23 until September and is dripping with upside.

Chipper Jones (Braves)

5/13/12 7:41 am

Chipper Jones is expected to receive a day off Sunday.

Chipper fouled a ball off his right foot in the fifth inning and also stung his fingers when he hit a ball off the end of the bat in the ninth. “Rough night,” said Jones. “I couldn?t feel any of my fingers. It was like I had a beehive right here. If it was a cartoon, you know how when the cartoons get their hand slammed in the door? That was me.” Jones had played three games in a row in Chicago for only the second time this season, and his surgically-repaired knee is feeling better, but with the Braves in the midst of playing 20 games in 20 days, he’ll need some time off to stay fresh.
