Aubrey Huff told Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle that he expects to be in top shape for spring training.
“I?m feeling physically better this year,” said Huff, who spent most of the winter working out at Athletes’ Performance Institute (API) in Arizona and resuming Pilates. “I know I?m making a lot of money to go out and get it done, and last year I didn?t do it. I took a lot of heat, and I should have. I?ve got to go to spring training and prove myself and basically win a job, because I?ve got two young kids breathing down my neck.” Huff, who turned 35 in December, batted just .245/.305/.370 with 12 homers, 59 RBI and a .676 OPS over 579 plate appearances last year. He is under contract for $10 million in 2012, but will likely have to compete with Brandon Belt and Brett Pill for playing time.
