Jordan Lyles (Astros)

5/15/12 11:11 am

Astros recalled RHP Jordan Lyles from Triple-A Oklahoma City.

As expected, Lyles will make the start Tuesday against the Phillies. The 21-year-old has a 3.49 ERA and 32/8 K/BB ratio over six starts at the Triple-A level this year and pitched well in a spot start against the Reds back on April 29, so he could have some NL-only appeal if he sticks around.

Jordan Lyles (Astros)

5/15/12 9:39 am

Jordan Lyles is in Philadelphia on Tuesday to start against the Phillies.

The only reason the Astros haven’t made a roster move yet is because there’s a chance the game will be rained out. Lyles allowed three runs over six innings against the Reds in his last start in the big leagues back on April 29. He’s not promised anything beyond Tuesday’s start, so we would wait and see before recommended him as a must-add in NL-only leagues.

Lucas Harrell (Astros)

5/14/12 8:56 pm

Lucas Harrell lasted just 5 2/3 innings in a loss to the Phillies Monday, allowing three runs on five hits and two walks while striking out three.

Harrell’s sinker was working early on, but the Phils got to him with a run in the fifth and two in the sixth to knock him from the game, though the last run came home after he had left. The right-hander hasn?t registered a quality start since April 18, and that was the only outing where he went more than six frames. He?ll carry a 4.40 ERA and 1.42 WHIP into this weekend’s game against the Rangers.

Marwin Gonzalez (Astros)

5/14/12 8:52 pm

Marwin Gonzalez launched his first major league homer in a pinch-hitting appearance Monday.

The Rule 5 pick has been woeful at the plate to this point, but he ran into a Joe Blanton pitch tonight. Still, Gonzalez shouldn’t be owned in any fantasy leagues.

J.D. Martinez (Astros)

5/14/12 5:28 pm

J.D. Martinez is not in Monday’s lineup.

Martinez is in the midst of a 1-for-35 slump which has lowered his batting average to .221 on the year, so his playing time will continue to be limited until he gets back on track. He’s expected to be in the lineup against left-hander Cliff Lee on Tuesday, though it likely won’t be in the third spot in the order.

Wandy Rodriguez (Astros)

5/13/12 5:10 pm

Wandy Rodriguez took a hard-luck no-decision in Sunday’s 12-inning loss to the Pirates, allowing just one run on three hits in eight innings of work.

Rodriguez struck out seven and walked only one in completing eight innings of work for the second consecutive outing. Although he’s just 3-3 thanks to poor run support, Rodriguez is sporting an elite 1.99 ERA to go along with a 0.99 WHIP and 36/13 K/BB ratio. You might want to keep him benched when the Rangers arrive in Houston on Friday, however.

Carlos Lee (Astros)

5/13/12 5:03 pm

Carlos Lee went 2-for-5 with a double and two runs scored in Sunday’s 12-inning loss to the Pirates.

The two-hit day was El Caballo’s first in six contests, but he’s still batting an acceptable .269/.336/.378 through Houston’s first 34 games. Lee got off to a slow power start last season before eventually launching 18 home runs.

Jordan Schafer (Astros)

5/12/12 9:45 pm

Jordan Schafer had a nice night at the plate in a losing effort Saturday night against the Pirates, going 2-for-4 with an RBI double.

Schafer has done some nice things as the Astros’ leadoff hitter and table-setter, now hitting .261 with a pair of homers, 20 runs scored and 11 steals on the season. His speed makes him a nice fantasy asset, and he should be owned and started in most leagues at this point.

J.A. Happ (Astros)

5/12/12 9:41 pm

J.A. Happ struggled in a losing effort against the Pirates on Saturday, giving up four earned runs on six hits in just five innings of work.

Happ punched out four and walked one in the game. The loss drops him to 2-3, and his ERA jumped to 5.39. He should be avoided in all fantasy leagues for his next start, which comes against the Brewers on Thursday.

George Springer (Astros)

5/12/12 8:55 am

Astros prospect George Springer went 3-for-4 with seven RBI for High-A Lancaster on Friday.

The 11th overall pick in last year’s draft, Springer is batting .310 with eight homers and a league-leading 32 RBI. Baseball America recently ranked him as the No. 3 prospect in the Astros’ organization.
