Angels

Ervin Santana (Angels)

5/15/12 8:36 pm

Ervin Santana was brilliant for a second consecutive start on Tuesday night, limiting the Athletics to four hits and three walks over 7 2/3 shutout innings.

Santana punched out nine in the game. After starting the season 0-6 and being unable to keep the ball in the yard, Santana has flipped a switch and been absolutely dominant in his last two outings. He’s now lowered his ERA to 4.02 and has become a must-play in mixed fantasy leagues. He?ll try to keep the ball rolling when he takes on the Padres in San Diego on Sunday.

Dan Haren (Angels)

5/15/12 12:29 am

Dan Haren surrendered four runs in six innings Monday in a loss to the A’s.

Haren is dealing with some back soreness, not to mention a chronic lack of run support. He’s apparently contracted Santanitis, as the Angels have been shut out in each of his last three starts.

Ryan Langerhans (Angels)

5/14/12 6:11 pm

Angels purchased the contract of OF Ryan Langerhans from Triple-A Salt Lake.

He’s taking the spot of Torii Hunter, who has been placed on the restricted list. A good defensive outfielder, Langerhans was off to a nice start with Salt Lake, batting .274/.430/.462 with five homers. He doesn’t figure to play much.

Torii Hunter (Angels)

5/14/12 6:09 pm

Angels placed OF Torii Hunter on the restricted list.

It’s being reported that Hunter’s son, Darius McClinton, was one of five from his high school in Texas arrested on charges related to sexual assault. It’s not clear at this point how long he might be away from the team. Ryan Langerhans has taken his spot on the roster.

Torii Hunter (Angels)

5/14/12 5:38 pm

Torii Hunter is not in Monday’s lineup against the Athletics.

Hunter also sat out Sunday’s game, so it’s possible that he’s dealing with some sort of injury. For what it’s worth, Ryan Langerhans is listed in the lineup sheet for Monday’s game. Mark Trumbo will make the start in right field while Mike Trout plays center and Vernon Wells starts in left. Alas, Peter Bourjos is on the bench yet gain.

Howie Kendrick (Angels)

5/14/12 5:35 pm

Howie Kendrick is not in the Angels’ starting lineup Monday against the Athletics.

We haven’t heard anything about an injury, so we’re assuming he’s just getting the night off. Maicer Izturis will start in his place at second base and bat second against right-hander Tyson Ross.

Jered Weaver (Angels)

5/13/12 11:00 pm

Jered Weaver was lit up by the Rangers on Sunday, surrendering eight runs in 3 1/3 innings to take his first loss.

That’s just one run fewer than Weaver had given up in his eight starts combined. Weaver has given seven runs in a start just four times the last three years and three of those shellings have come in Arlington. We wonder if there might not be more rumors of sign stealing after this one, particularly after C.J. Wilson opted to go with multiple signs from the catcher with no one on base Saturday.

Mark Trumbo (Angels)

5/13/12 10:55 pm

Mark Trumbo went 3-for-4 with a homer, a double and a walk in Sunday night’s loss.

Trumbo has homered in two straight and picked up an extra-base hit in four straight games. He’s even drawing walks this year, so he’s making it really though for the Angels to hold him out of the lineup.

Kendrys Morales (Angels)

5/13/12 10:53 pm

Kendrys Morales homered Sunday in his return to the starting lineup.

It was his third homer. Morales missed two games because of soreness in his left Achilles’ tendon.

Scott Downs (Angels)

5/13/12 2:19 am

Scott Downs returned to action on Saturday May 12.
