The Giants and OF Angel Pagan have agreed to a one-year, $4.85 million contract, thus avoiding salary arbitration.

The deal includes $150,000 in performance-based incentives. Pagan, who was arbitration eligible for the final time this winter, earned $3.5 million with the Mets last season while batting .262/.322/.372 with seven home runs, 56 RBI, 32 stolen bases and a .694 OPS. The 30-year-old projects as the Giants’ starting center fielder and leadoff man in 2012.

Giants acquired OF Angel Pagan from the Mets for OF Andres Torres and RHP Ramon Ramirez.

It’s your classic change of scenery deal. The Mets obviously soured on Pagan, partially due to his lapses in the outfield this season, but he remains a pretty solid bet to bounceback offensively for the Giants next season. The 30-year-old figures to make around $5 million in arbitration and should be a nice fit atop their lineup.

Steve Popper of the Bergen Record reports that the deal sending Angel Pagan to the Giants in exchange for Andres Torres and Ramon Ramirez is complete, pending physicals.

The trade has been confirmed by various other outlets. The Giants will get an upgrade in center field, while the Mets will get a replacement for Pagan and much-needed relief help, so it sounds like a pretty good deal for both sides. All three players are arbitration-eligible, so the Giants will probably save a little bit of money in the deal.

Andrew Baggarly of the San Jose Mercury News reports that the Mets and Giants are working on a trade that would send Andres Torres and Ramon Ramirez to the Mets for Angel Pagan.

Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com reported the possible deal earlier as a “change of scenery” type trade but didn’t list the names involved. Pagan and Torres would qualify for that description, and the Mets are said to be looking for more relief help, so the deal would make sense. It sounds like it could be completed at some point Tuesday night.

According to Jon Heyman of SI.com, the Mets will tender contracts to Angel Pagan and Mike Pelfrey.

Hardly a shock, as the Mets don’t have quality alternatives for either player right now. Pagan stands to make between $4-5 million in his final year of arbitration while Pelfrey could make close to $6 million.

Jon Heyman of SI.com hears that the Mets plan to tender a contract to Angel Pagan.

Some speculated that Pagan could be non-tendered after he batted just .262/.322/.372 with a .694 OPS this season while playing subpar defense in center field, but with no obvious in-house replacement, it sounds like the Mets could bank on a turnaround. Then again, it’s still possible the Mets could shop him before the December 12 non-tender deadline. The 30-year-old could make between $4-5 million in his final year of arbitration.
