Adam Kennedy went 4-for-4 with a double and a walk Friday in the Dodgers’ 6-5 win over the Cardinals.

So apparently Kennedy belonged in the fifth spot in the Dodgers lineup all along. His perfect night tonight raised his average all of the way from .186 to .255. Expect to find him hitting fifth again Saturday against Jake Westbrook.

Adam Kennedy will bat fifth on Thursday night against the Padres.

Yes, the same Adam Kennedy who is hitting .179 (7-for-39) this year and has a lowly .637 OPS dating back to the start of the 2010 season. OBP machine A.J. Ellis, who batted fifth on Monday and Tuesday, is back in the starting lineup Thursday in the No. 7 spot.

Adam Kennedy (groin) is scheduled to serve as the designated hitter in a minor league game Saturday.

Kennedy hasn’t played since suffering a right groin strain during Sunday’s game. If all goes well on Saturday, he could return to the Cactus League lineup as soon as Sunday. The 36-year-old signed a one-year, $800,000 contract with the Dodgers this offseason after batting .234/.277/.355 with seven homers and 38 RBI last season with the Mariners. He is expected to serve as a utility infielder this season.

Adam Kennedy suffered a slight groin pull during Sunday’s Cactus League game against the Brewers.

The Dodgers don’t seem all that concerned about the injury lingering into the regular season. Kennedy signed a one-year, $800,000 contract this winter and is expected to have a spot on the Los Angeles bench this season.

The deal, which was agreed upon Wednesday morning, also carries another $150,000 in performance-based incentives. Kennedy batted just .234/.277/.355 this past year for the Mariners, but he can play all around the infield and will function as a utilityman for the Dodgers in 2012.
