White Sox signed OF Kosuke Fukudome to a one-year, $1 million contract with a club option for 2013.

Adam Dunn (White Sox)

2/11/12 12:45 pm

Appearing on ESPN 1000 in Chicago, manager Ozzie Guillen said that he and his coaching staff knew that Adam Dunn had major issues going into spring training last year.

“I looked at his swing and I told [bench coach] Joey Cora going home, ?We?ve got a big problem’,” Guillen said. ”It was painful to see him every at-bat and walk behind me [in the dugout] with a long face after striking out.” Dunn, 32, had five consecutive seasons with 40-plus home runs, but managed just 11 homers and 44 RBI in 2011. He is still owed $14 million next season and $15 million in 2013 and 2014.

Mitch Mustain (White Sox)

2/10/12 8:41 am

White Sox signed RHP Mitch Mustain to a minor league contract.

A former college quarterback at Arkansas and USC, Mustain hasn’t pitched since high school but said he hit 90 mph on the radar gun during a recent tryout in front of a White Sox scout. At 23 years old and not having played baseball since 2005, obviously the odds are long that Mustain’s baseball career will ever amount to anything. It’s an interesting little story, though, at least. He’ll report to spring training on March 8.

Jake Peavy (White Sox)

2/6/12 11:26 am

Jake Peavy (shoulder) told the Chicago Tribune this weekend: “I’m as 100 percent as I can be.”

“I don’t know if I’m 100 percent as to what I was four years ago,” the 30-year-old right-hander continued. “I know I’m as 100 percent as 100 percent is going to get after what I had done (surgically). I guess that’s the best way to say it.” Peavy had a 4.92 ERA in 111 2/3 innings last season and should be nothing more than a late-round flier pick in mixed league fantasy drafts this spring.

Paul Konerko (White Sox)

2/2/12 4:18 am

In an interview with Comcast SportsNet, Paul Konerko stated that he’s considering retiring after the 2012 or 2013 seasons.

“I would see it ending after next year or maybe another year,” Konerko said. “At some point you got to go home and be around your kids and have other things to do.” He also expressed frustration playing for a team that has been “back at square one” for several years. Konerko led Pale Hose regulars in batting average, homers, RBI, and walks in 2011. The team might have to become a serious title contender soon if they want to keep their stud hitter in tow.

Dan Johnson (White Sox)

2/1/12 12:10 pm

White Sox signed 1B/DH Dan Johnson to a minor league contract.

The deal presumably includes a spring training invite. Johnson, 32, batted just .118 (10-for-84) at the major-league level last year, but his game-tying home run in the final game of the regular season kept the Rays’ season alive. He’ll try to win a bench spot on Chicago’s Opening Day roster.

Adam Dunn (White Sox)

1/29/12 10:11 pm

Nationals GM Mike Rizzo said his club has no interest in reacquiring Adam Dunn.

Unsubstantiated rumors floated earlier this offseason that Washington might take Dunn off Kenny Williams’ hands, but Rizzo emphatically denied the scenario. Washington missed out on Price Fielder and projects to go with Adam LaRoche again at first. The 32-year-old Dunn batted just .159/.292/.277 with 11 home runs and a .569 OPS over 496 plate appearances last season for the White Sox. He is still owed $14 million next season and $15 million in 2013 and 2014.

Adam Dunn (White Sox)

1/28/12 4:00 pm

Adam Dunn believes he’s on track for a bounce back season after his disappointing 2011 campaign.

“I?m going into this year feeling as good as I?ve felt in a long time and just ready to get started and quit talking about it,” Dunn said. ”It doesn?t matter where you go, everyone is talking about it. I realize that comes with [the territory], but I really can?t wait for Opening Day.” Dunn, 32, is coming off a season that saw him hit just .159/.292/.277 with 11 home runs and a .569 OPS over 496 plate appearances. He is still owed $14 million next season and $15 million in 2013 and 2014.

Chris Sale (White Sox)

1/28/12 2:15 pm

The White Sox are expected to monitor Chris Sale’s innings as he makes the transition to the starting rotation next season.

Sale, 22, threw 71 innings last year and hasn’t started since May of 2010 at Florida Gulf Coast University. “We’ll give this kid just enough experience and let him go,” said White Sox pitching coach Don Cooper at SoxFest. ”We’re going to do everything in our power to not put [his health] in danger.”

Jake Peavy (White Sox)

1/28/12 1:15 pm

Jake Peavy believes he has ”a lot left in the tank” and is ready to test what’s left of his surgically repaired right arm this spring.

“There’s no doubt that they told me 12 to 18 months out of surgery you are as good as you are going to get,” Peavy said. ”I’ve done all the rehab. We’ve done all the work. You know, who I am is who I am, and hopefully it’s a tick better and the guy we saw flashes of at times last year.” Peavy is in the last season of a three-year, $52 million contract signed in 2010. The White Sox hold a $22-million club option for 2013 with a $4 million buyout.
