Tyler Colvin (Rockies)

1/18/13 2:58 pm

Rockies avoided arbitration with OF Tyler Colvin by agreeing to a one-year contract.

The financial details aren’t known. Colvin, who was arbitration-eligible for the first time as a Super 2 player, had a nice bounce-back year in 2012, batting .290/.327/.531 with 18 longballs. He’ll open 2013 in a backup role but will see plenty of playing time when the inevitable Todd Helton injury occurs.

Josh Outman (Rockies)

1/16/13 6:23 pm

Rockies avoided arbitration with LHP Josh Outman by signing him to a one-year contract.

The financial terms aren’t available, but it will be a pretty small amount since the left-hander is a first-time arbitration-eligible player. Outman struck out a batter per inning but posted an ugly 8.19 ERA over 27 appearances for the Rockies last season.

Wilton Lopez (Rockies)

1/16/13 6:21 pm

Rockies avoided arbitration with RHP Wilton Lopez by signing him to a one-year contract.

The financials of the deal aren’t known at this time, but Lopez was arbitration-eligible for the first time, so his contract should be relatively modest despite his performance the last three years. He’s posted a 2.64 ERA over the last three seasons and will help set up for the Rockies in 2013.

Jeff Francis (Rockies)

1/12/13 5:32 pm

Jeff Francis will not participate for Team Canada in the upcoming World Baseball Classic, opting instead to focus on competing for a spot in the Rockies rotation.

Francis was signed to a one-year, $1.5 million contract in December to return to the club. The 32-year-old left-hander went 6-7 with a 5.58 ERA in 24 starts with the Rockies in 2012. He’s proven in years past to be a valuable innings-eater and could provide veteran leadership to a very inexperienced rotation.

Troy Tulowitzki (Rockies)

1/12/13 4:17 pm

Troy Tulowitzki (groin) will be evaluated by the WBC committee this week, and if he’s cleared to do so will play for the USA in the upcoming World Baseball Classic.

Considering his lengthy injury history, it’s a very risky decision by the team to let Tulowitzki compete in the tournament. The 28-year-old superstar shortstop was limited to just 47 games during the 2012 season.

Michael Cuddyer (Rockies)

1/12/13 10:22 am

According to FOX Sports’ Jon Paul Morosi, the Rockies have no plans to move Michael Cuddyer.

Coming off an injury-plagued 2012, Cuddyer has been subject to trade speculation this offseason. Morosi reports that the Mariners expressed interest “awhile back,” but the Rockies haven’t shown any indication that they’re willing to make a trade. Cuddyer, who batted .260/.317/.489 with 16 home runs and an .806 OPS in 101 games last year, is owed $10.5 million in each of the next two seasons.

Manny Corpas (Rockies)

1/9/13 10:24 pm

Rockies signed RHP Manny Corpas to a minor league contract.

The deal includes an invitation to spring training. Corpas spent the first five seasons of his career with the Rockies and was the closer on their 2007 club that won the National League pennant. He’ll try to win a middle relief role.

Troy Tulowitzki (Rockies)

1/9/13 9:05 am

Troy Tulowitzki plans to play for Team USA in the upcoming World Baseball Classic.

Tulowitzki, who finished last season on the disabled list, will need to be cleared by the WBC committee before officially being added to the roster. Considering his history of injuries, it’s a risky decision by the Rockies to let him compete in the tournament. Ryan Braun, David Wright and Joe Mauer are among the other players who have committed to playing for Team USA.

Jason Giambi (Rockies)

1/8/13 9:50 pm

According to Troy Renck of the Denver Post, free agent Jason Giambi is “still hopeful of playing this season.”

Giambi was in the running for the Rockies’ managerial gig but didn’t get it and is now searching for a spot on a major league bench. He’ll probably have to accept a minor league contract but he should find a team.
