Jeremy Guthrie (Rockies)

5/20/12 5:28 pm

Jeremy Guthrie got roughed up by the Mariners in Sunday’s home loss, allowing six runs on seven hits, two walks and three home runs in six innings of work.

More of the same from Guthrie in his new high-elevation home, as he’s now the owner of a 9.92 ERA through three starts and 16 1/3 innings at Coors Field. He’s not worth rostering in 10-12 team mixed leagues until he begins to produce in the stadium where he’ll be making half his appearances.

Carlos Gonzalez (Rockies)

5/20/12 5:23 pm

Carlos Gonzalez went 3-for-5 with a home run, double and two RBI in Sunday’s loss to the Mariners.

CarGo tagged Blake Beavan for a first-inning solo shot. That’s the good news. The bad news is that the Rockies are embarking on a six-game road trip. Gonzalez owns an anemic (by his standards) .735 OPS away from Coors Field this season. On the whole, he’s hitting an excellent .304/.376/.547.

Adam Ottavino (Rockies)

5/20/12 12:47 pm

Rockies recalled RHP Adam Ottavino from Triple-A Colorado Springs.

Ottavino struck out four over 2 2/3 perfect innings earlier this month with the Rox. He’ll work in middle relief.

Rex Brothers (Rockies)

5/20/12 12:46 pm

Rockies optioned LHP Rex Brothers to Triple-A Colorado Springs.

Brothers entered the season as a sleeper for saves, but he got off to a woeful start, posting a 5.87 ERA and 2.28 WHIP over 15 1/3 innings. His 21 strikeouts over 15 2/3 innings shows his upside, but he has to throw more strikes if he wants to cash in on his potential.

Drew Pomeranz (Rockies)

5/20/12 9:26 am

Rockies manager Jim Tracy indicated that Drew Pomeranz isn’t close to rejoining the team despite a second straight scoreless outing at Triple-A Colorado Springs.

“I’m not surprised he’s pitching good in Triple-A ? throwing scoreless innings and giving up just a couple of hits,” Tracy said. “But we’re trying to make him a little bit better than good. We just don’t want him here at the big-league level trying to survive or just making a little contribution. We view this guy as someone that can be a dominant force at the front end of the rotation.” Pomeranz posted a 4.70 ERA and 1.74 in five starts for the Rockies before being demoted. Although he remains intriguing over the long-term, he should be off mixed league rosters for now.

Jorge De La Rosa (Rockies)

5/19/12 1:28 pm

Updating a previous item, Jorge De La Rosa (elbow) has been formally pulled off his rehab assignment.

He’ll get a new 30-day window. De La Rosa wasn’t going to be ready for his June 2 return to the majors, and will have to reestablish his health before rejoining the Rockies. The 31-year-old left-hander is on his way back from Tommy John reconstructive elbow surgery.

Jorge De La Rosa (Rockies)

5/19/12 1:09 pm

Jorge De La Rosa (elbow) has been scratched from next rehab start with forearm tightness.

De La Rosa was expected to make his final rehab outing with Triple-A Colorado Springs on Tuesday before rejoining the Rockies in early-June. It’s not yet clear whether this will push back his original timetable. The 31-year-old left-hander hasn’t pitched in the majors since 2011 and is working his way back from Tommy John reconstructive elbow surgery.

Alex White (Rockies)

5/18/12 10:19 pm

Alex White yielded three runs (two earned) over seven innings in a loss to the Mariners on Friday night.

White scattered six hits (including a solo homer by Mike Carp) while fanning seven and walking none. He also hit a batter. While he took the loss, it was the first time in his major league career that he completed seven innings. He’ll carry a 5.09 ERA into his next start Wednesday against the Marlins and remains an intriguing option in NL-only leagues.

Jorge De La Rosa (Rockies)

5/18/12 8:33 am

Jorge De La Rosa (elbow) allowed a run on three hits and three walks while striking out four over four innings in a rehab start for Double-A Tulsa Thursday.

De La Rosa left his last rehab outing with forearm tightness, but he evidently didn’t have any physical issues Thursday. He’ll pitch for Triple-A Colorado Springs on Tuesday before rejoining the Rockies rotation on June 2 if all goes well. The 31-year-old southpaw is on his way back from Tommy John reconstructive elbow surgery.

Rafael Betancourt (Rockies)

5/18/12 5:44 am

After entering in the ninth inning of a tie game on Thursday, Rafael Betancourt surrendered two runs and took the loss against Arizona.

It was the closer’s first defeat of the season, as he falls to 1-1 with a 3.00 ERA and 1.13 WHIP. He has converted seven of eight save opportunities after nailing down only eight of 12 last year.
