Red Sox prospect right-hander Stolmy Pimentel thinks his lat injury is minor.

Pimentel suffered the injury on Tuesday, but thinks he’ll be able to resume throwing within the next few days. The 22-year-old posted a 6.79 ERA and 65/39 K/BB ratio over 102 innings between High-A Salem and Double-A Portland last season.

Carl Crawford (Red Sox)

Carl Crawford took 15 swings off a tee Tuesday and said his surgically-repaired left wrist felt fine.

Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine said last week that he wouldn’t be surprised if Crawford misses the first few weeks of the season, but the speedy left fielder currently considers himself ahead of schedule. “I might surprise some people, you never know,” said Crawford. “I have to make sure I don’t have any setbacks but everything feels good right now.”

John Lackey (Red Sox)

Red Sox placed RHP John Lackey on the 60-day disabled list.

Lackey underwent Tommy John surgery in November and is expected to miss the entire 2011 season. Left-hander Rich Hill, who is also rehabbing from Tommy John, has replaced him on the team’s 40-man roster.

Rich Hill (Red Sox)

Red Sox purchased the contract of LHP Rich Hill.

John Lackey was placed on the 60-day disabled list in order to clear a spot on the 40-man roster. Hill is also working his way back from Tommy John surgery, but should be able to contribute at the big league level at some point this season.

Red Sox prospect Stolmy Pimentel suffered a strained lat on Tuesday in spring camp.

Pimentel could be down for a couple of weeks. The 22-year-old right-hander had an ugly 2011, registering a 6.79 ERA in 102 innings between Double-A and Single-A.

Bobby Jenks (Red Sox)

2/21/12 11:45 am

Red Sox placed RHP Bobby Jenks on the 60-day disabled list with a back injury.

Yet another negative sign for Jenks, who had two back surgeries this winter and seems likely to miss nearly the entire first half of the 2012 regular season. Red Sox skipper Bobby Valentine called the right-hander a “real back-burner” guy on Monday at spring training.

Chris Carpenter (Red Sox)

2/21/12 11:33 am

Red Sox acquired RHP Chris Carpenter from the Cubs as compensation for general manager Theo Epstein.

The situation is finally resolved after close to four months of fruitless haggling. Carpenter, 26, was a third-round pick in the 2008 MLB Amateur Draft. He posted a 5.91 ERA in 42 2/3 innings last season between Double-A Tennessee and Triple-A Iowa, and projects as nothing more than a middle reliever. The Sox will also get a player to be named later and will send the Cubs a player to be named later.

Ross Ohlendorf (Red Sox)

2/21/12 9:25 am

Ross Ohlendorf said Tuesday that his shoulder is fine.

Ohlendorf is slightly behind the other pitchers in Red Sox camp because of back tightness, not anything having to do with his previous shoulder injuries. He developed the back discomfort while traveling to spring training and should get over it within the next couple of days.

Carl Crawford (Red Sox)

2/20/12 10:28 pm

Carl Crawford (wrist) has yet to be cleared to swing a bat.

“I think it should be pretty soon,” said Crawford, who had surgery last month to remove cartilage from his left wrist. “I definitely feel good about it. Once me and the trainers talk about it and both feel good about it, it should be pretty soon. I definitely want to be back on the field as soon as possible, so I want to channel my feelings and make sure I do the right thing.” Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine said last week that he wouldn’t be surprised if Crawford misses the first few weeks of the season, but the high-priced outfielder said Monday that he still hopes to be ready for Opening Day. Cody Ross and Ryan Sweeney would man the corner outfield spots if the Red Sox decide to play it safe.

Ross Ohlendorf (Red Sox)

2/20/12 4:30 pm

Ross Ohlendorf (shoulder) is not on the same pace as some of the other pitchers in Red Sox camp.

Ohlendorf has been bothered by shoulder injuries over the past two seasons, so the Red Sox are just playing it safe. The 29-year-old righty signed a minor league deal with the club last week and has an outside chance of winning a rotation spot.
