Neftali Feliz (Rangers)

5/21/12 5:35 pm

Neftali Feliz (elbow) could be sidelined until the All-Star break.

Feliz was placed on the disabled list Monday with right elbow inflammation. He’ll be shut down for a month, after which he’ll begin a throwing program. This will likely sideline him until the All-Star break, if not longer. The 24-year-old right-hander was facing an innings limit in his first season in the rotation anyway, so this might not be the worst thing for him given that there’s no structural damage. Scott Feldman will take his spot in the starting rotation and is worth adding in AL-only formats.

Michael Kirkman (Rangers)

5/21/12 4:44 pm

Michael Kirkman was diagnosed with a form of skin cancer in January.

Kirkman is allowed to participate in full baseball activity while undergoing treatment and is expected to make a full recovery. The 25-year-old left-hander has made 29 appearances in the majors over the past two seasons and has a 6.68 ERA and 33/24 K/BB raito over 31 innings as a starter and reliever this year with Triple-A Round Rock.

Rangers recalled RHP Yoshinori Tateyama from Triple-A Round Rock.

Tateyma has registered a sparkling 0.54 ERA in 16 2/3 innings this year at the Triple-A level. The 36-year-old from Japan will operate in middle relief for Texas.

Neftali Feliz (Rangers)

5/21/12 2:13 pm

Rangers placed RHP Neftali Feliz on the 15-day disabled list with a right elbow injury.

Feliz reported discomfort in his elbow over the weekend after going just 4 2/3 innings against the Astros and underwent a precautionary MRI on Monday morning. The results of that exam aren’t yet available, but the Rangers have already decided to play it safe with their 24-year-old flamethrower. Scott Feldman will fill his rotation spot Wednesday against the Mariners.

Mike Adams (Rangers)

5/21/12 8:44 am

Mike Adams (chest) was available on Sunday.

Adams was diagnosed this past weekend with a respiratory infection, but he’s been prescribed medication and will work through it. “I’m getting better,” the 31-year-old setup man told reporters Sunday.

Colby Lewis (Rangers)

5/20/12 4:33 pm

Colby Lewis narrowly missed a shutout in Sunday’s 6-1 win over the Astros, allowing one run on four hits in eight innings of work.

He struck out six, and also managed to go 2-for-4 with two RBI at the plate. Lewis came out to take a shot at a shutout in the ninth, but was yanked after serving up a leadoff home run to Jed Lowrie. It was a much needed outing for Texas’ No. 2 (or is it No. 3?) starter after he allowed at least six runs in each of his past three outings. He’ll bring a 3.30 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and 53/9 K/BB ratio into his weekend start against the Blue Jays at home.

David Murphy (Rangers)

5/20/12 4:24 pm

David Murphy hit a solo home run in Sunday’s win over the Astros.

Murphy’s fifth-inning blast off of Jordan Lyles was his second in two games, and third of the month. Quietly getting going after a middling start, the left-handed half of Texas’ left-field platoon is now batting .271/.333/.477 on the year. He should be owned in all deeper mixed leagues.

Nelson Cruz (Rangers)

5/20/12 12:53 pm

Nelson Cruz (quad) is back in the Rangers’ lineup Sunday.

Cruz left Saturday’s game with right quad tightness, but it didn’t end up costing him any starts. He’s batting .264/.320/.403 with four homers and two steals this season.

Mike Adams (Rangers)

5/20/12 12:00 pm

Mike Adams (respiratory infection) is expected to be unavailable again Sunday but should be ready to pitch Monday.

Adams actually told Rangers manager Ron Washington that he feels good enough to pitch Sunday, but Wash wants to give him one more day. He’ll have missed the entire three-game set against the Astros.

Nelson Cruz (Rangers)

5/19/12 10:01 pm

Nelson Cruz was diagnosed with right quad tightness.

Cruz was removed from Saturday’s game prior to the bottom of the eighth inning with the ailment, which he said he’s been suffering from for the past three days. Cruz assured reporters that the injury isn’t serious, so perhaps he won’t miss any time.
