Placido Polanco (Phillies)

5/16/12 9:52 pm

Updating an earlier item, Placido Polanco has been diagnosed with a left knee bruise.

The veteran infielder exited Wednesday’s game after fouling a ball off the knee. He initially stayed in the game, so we’re guessing it’s not too bad. Consider him day-to-day.

Placido Polanco left Wednesday’s game after fouling a ball of his knee.

Polanco initially stayed in the game, but evidently it became too painful. We’ll update his status when more information becomes available. Mike Fontenot took his spot at third base.

Vance Worley (Phillies)

5/16/12 7:39 pm

Phillies general manager Ruben Amaro guesses that Vance Worley (elbow) will miss 2-3 starts but admits that he has “no idea how long it’s going to take.”

Worley was diagnosed with inflammation in his elbow, which is the best news he could have received. Still, when the elbow is involved, there’s always some uncertainty. “Generally, it’s pretty good news when you don?t have structural damage,” Amaro said. “We think it’s … mild, but we have no idea how long its going to take. We?ll just see after he’s re-evaluated after a week of getting shut down whether he can start throwing and then we?ll know how he feels after that, and we?ll know how long it will take to get him back.”

Chase Utley (Phillies)

5/16/12 6:39 pm

Chase Utley (knee) fielded grounders Wednesday for the first time since rejoining the Phillies on May 5.

Obviously, it’s a good sign, but we’ll have to see how the knee responds. Utley doesn’t seem to have any issues at the plate, but he’ll have to field and run without hesitation before a realistic timetable can be established. Right now, a best-case scenario is probably mid-June.

Vance Worley (Phillies)

5/16/12 5:25 pm

An MRI taken Wednesday morning on Vance Worley’s right elbow showed no structural damage.

Worley has been diagnosed merely with elbow inflammation and should be ready to return to the Phillies’ starting rotation soon after he’s eligible for activation from the 15-day disabled list. The 24-year-old right-hander has registered a fantastic 3.07 ERA and 45/15 K/BB ratio in seven starts this season.

Kyle Hudson (Phillies)

5/16/12 12:01 pm

Phillies acquired OF Kyle Hudson from the Rays for OF Rich Thompson.

Hudson, who was swapped from the Rangers to the Rays at the end of spring training, was hitting .291/.378/.318 with eight RBI, seven stolen bases and a .696 OPS over his first 33 games with Triple-A Durham. While the 25-year-old knows how to draw a walk and can steal some bases, he has never hit a home run as a professional. He’ll likely serve as outfield depth at the Triple-A level.

Joe Savery (Phillies)

5/16/12 10:11 am

Phillies recalled LHP Joe Savery from Triple-A Lehigh Valley.

He’ll take the place of the injured Vance Worley (elbow) on the active roster. Savery, 26, has a 4.50 ERA and 2/2 K/BB ratio over eight innings with the big club this season. Look for him in middle relief.

Kyle Kendrick (Phillies)

5/16/12 10:10 am

Kyle Kendrick will start in place of Vance Worley (elbow) Wednesday night against the Cubs.

Worley was placed on the disabled list Wednesday with right elbow inflammation and will miss at least his next couple of turns in the starting rotation. Kendrick has an ugly 7.32 ERA and 12/9 K/BB ratio over 19 2/3 innings this season and can be avoided in fantasy leagues.

Vance Worley (Phillies)

5/16/12 10:05 am

Phillies placed RHP Vance Worley on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to May 12, with right elbow inflammation.

The severity of the injury isn’t yet known, but Phillies general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. said there should be more information on his status Wednesday. Worley, 24, has a 3.07 ERA and 45/15 K/BB ratio over his first seven starts this season. Kyle Kendrick will take his place in the starting rotation for now.

Hunter Pence (Phillies)

5/15/12 3:58 pm

Hunter Pence’s second homer of the game was a walkoff blast off Brett Myers to give the Phillies a 4-3 win over the Astros in 10 innings Tuesday.

Pence was in a 3-for-27 slump since his last two-homer game on May 6. He hasn’t really done much besides hit homers this season, but at least he now has nine of them to go along with his .255 average and 32/9 K/BB ratio in 145 at-bats.
