Zach Britton (Orioles)

2/22/12 11:53 am

Zach Britton (shoulder) is scheduled to throw off flat ground Thursday and Friday.

Britton will rest Saturday before throwing off flat ground the following three days. He’s aiming to raise his “pitch count” in preparation for throwing off a mound next weekend. The 24-year-old left-hander is behind some of the other pitchers in O’s camp due to left shoulder inflammation, but he still hopes to be ready for the start of the season.

Jim Johnson (Orioles)

Jim Johnson (back) will throw one more time off a half-mound before progressing to a regular mound.

Johnson is currently behind some of the other pitchers in camp due to back tightness, but he won’t need many innings to get ready for the season. The 28-year-old right-hander posted a 2.67 ERA and 58/21 K/BB ratio over 91 innings last season and is the favorite to close games for the O’s in 2012.

Dane Sardinha (Orioles)

2/21/12 1:30 pm

Dane Sardinha failed his physical with the Orioles.

Sardinha inked a minor league contract earlier this month but was revealed to have lingering medical problems when he arrived at spring camp. The Orioles are likely to void his deal and make a move soon to ensure that they have enough catching depth.

Zach Britton (Orioles)

2/21/12 1:16 pm

Zach Britton (shoulder) is hoping to begin throwing off a mound at some point next week.

Britton has been playing catch on flat ground for a couple of days without any sort of lingering pain or discomfort. He’s aiming to play catch-up during the month of March in anticipation for a possible Opening Day start.

Taylor Teagarden (Orioles)

2/21/12 9:46 am

Taylor Teagarden (knee) told reporters Tuesday in Orioles camp that he’s at around 85 percent health.

Teagarden had two minor knee surgeries this offseason. As long as he can avoid setbacks, the 28-year-old should open the season on time as Baltimore’s backup catcher.

Jim Johnson (Orioles)

2/21/12 9:37 am

Jim Johnson (back) will throw off a half-mound Tuesday.

Johnson is about a week behind the other pitchers in O’s camp due to back tightness that he developed over the offseason. It doesn’t seem to be a major concern for the Baltimore closer, who can play catch-up in March.

Brian Roberts (Orioles)

2/20/12 2:03 pm

Brian Roberts (concussion) has been hitting off a tee and playing long toss in Orioles camp.

Roberts had to skip the Orioles’ annual FanFest in January due to lingering post-concussion symptoms, but all indications are that he’s now feeling better. The Orioles are said to be in “wait-and-see mode” on the veteran infielder as the 2012 season approaches. If he’s finally healthy, he could again be a valuable fantasy commodity.

Zach Britton (Orioles)

2/20/12 12:08 pm

Zach Britton (shoulder) made 60-70 throws from flat ground Monday and reported no issues.

Britton is slowly but surely working his way back to full health after suffering from shoulder inflammation this offseason. The 24-year-old left-hander is aiming to throw from a mound soon and should only be a few weeks behind the other pitchers in O’s camp.

Mark Reynolds (Orioles)

2/19/12 5:30 pm

Mark Reynolds lost at least 20 pounds over the off-season.

Reynolds focused his offseason workouts on cardio in an effort to improve his mobility and hopefully provide better defense at third base. Reynolds made 26 errors at the hot corner last year and was eventually moved away from the position, but the O’s don’t have a better option at the moment. Chris Davis will open 2012 as Baltimore’s starting first baseman. Orioles manager Buck Showalter said he isn’t concerned that a slimmer Reynolds will translate to less power, pointing out that Reynolds’ power increased last season as he lost weight over the course of the year.

Dennys Reyes (Orioles)

2/19/12 4:40 pm

Dennys Reyes and Ronny Paulino are both dealing with visa issues and have not yet reported to Orioles camp.

Both were signed to minor league deals this offseason that included invites to spring training. Once they get to camp, Reyes has an outside chance to make the club as a left-handed specialist, while Paulino will have to have a huge spring to win the backup catcher job.
