Anibal Sanchez (Marlins)

5/14/12 9:03 pm

Anibal Sanchez pitched well despite picking up a loss Monday, holding the Pirates to three runs on six hits and a walk while striking out six over seven innings.

It marks the first game this season that he’s allowed more than two runs. Despite the loss against a poor offensive team, Sanchez has been nothing short of brilliant this season, sporting a 2.28 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and 51/12 K/BB ratio over 47 1/3 innings. He?ll get the Indians this weekend.

Kevin Mattison (Marlins)

5/14/12 9:03 pm

Marlins optioned OF Kevin Mattison to Triple-A New Orleans.

Mattison was just called up from the minors on Thursday and went hitless in his lone at-bat with the big club. The speedy outfielder returns to a .250/.321/.395 batting line at the Triple-A level. The Marlins are expected to call up Bryan Peterson in a corresponding move Tuesday.

Hanley Ramirez (Marlins)

5/14/12 9:00 pm

Hanley Ramirez went 2-for-4 with a solo homer in Monday’s loss to the Pirates.

Ramirez has been a bit of an all-or-nothing player this season, as he’s now on pace for 32 homers and 106 RBI, but he’s batting just .221. We’re pretty confident that the average will come up, but it’s hard to be too sure after his .243 mark last year.

Carlos Zambrano (Marlins)

5/13/12 4:03 pm

Carlos Zambrano got stuck with a no-decision in Sunday’s 8-4 win over the Mets, allowing two runs (one earned) on five hits and three walks in seven innings of walk.

A resurgent Big Z struck out seven in lowering his ERA 1.88. His WHIP nudged slightly upward to 1.04. Clearly taking to Miami and manager Ozzie Guillen, Zambrano is a must start in all formats until further notice. He’ll get the Indians in Cleveland on Friday.

Giancarlo Stanton (Marlins)

5/13/12 3:53 pm

Giancarlo Stanton walked off the Marlins in Sunday’s wild 8-4 win over the Mets, tagging Manny Acosta for a two-out, game-winning grand slam.

The man formerly known as Mike finished his day 3-for-5, and is now batting .354 with six home runs and 13 RBI in 12 May contests. Firmly beyond his early-season struggles, the ever-streaky Stanton appears ready to produce like the second-to-third round pick he was in a large majority of fantasy leagues.

Heath Bell (Marlins)

5/13/12 3:46 pm

Heath Bell got rocked in a non-save situation Sunday, allowing two runs on two hits and two walks, but inexplicably picked up the win in Miami’s 8-4 triumph over the Mets.

Luckily for Bell, Frank Francisco was even worse at his ninth-inning duties this afternoon. Called on to hold the line in a 2-2 game, Bell set the tone for his latest disaster by serving up a one-out double to Daniel Murphy. In Bell’s slight defense, one of his walks was intentional, but it was still an indefensible outing for Miami’s $27 million stopper. It’s anyone’s guess as to whether manager Ozzie Guillen will stick with his Friday pledge to return Bell to closing duties, but at the very least, Steve Cishek and Edward Mujica should remain owned in all formats.

Ricky Nolasco (Marlins)

5/12/12 3:53 pm

Ricky Nolasco was knocked around for six runs over 4 2/3 innings in a loss to the Mets on Saturday.

Nolasco had a chance to become the franchise’s all-time leader in wins, but he was all over the place, walking three, hitting two batters and throwing 58 out of 95 pitches for strikes. He gave up nine hits in all while David Wright touched him up for a solo homer. Nolasco’s ERA jumped from 2.72 to 3.65 in the loss. He’ll look to bounce back against the Braves next week.

Jose Reyes (Marlins)

5/12/12 3:52 pm

Jose Reyes was 4-for-5 with a run scored in Saturday’s loss to the Mets.

It was Reyes’ first four-hit game since last June 28. The big day against his former club raised his batting average from .234 to .256 on the year. Things should only get better from here.

Omar Infante (Marlins)

5/11/12 9:50 pm

Omar Infante went 3-for-4 with two RBI, a run scored and a stolen base in Friday’s win over the Mets.

It’s his fourth three-hit game of the season. Infante batted second Friday for the first time this season, so his big night may make him a fixture there in the days ahead. He has plenty of value in deeper mixed leagues right now.

Mark Buehrle (Marlins)

5/11/12 9:49 pm

Mark Buehrle gave up two runs over 6 2/3 innings Friday as part of a no-decision against the Mets.

Buehrle scattered eight hits while walking a pair and striking out three. The Marlins haven’t helped him much on offense, hence the 2-4 record, but the veteran left-hander has a very solid 2.81 ERA through seven starts. He’ll face the Braves next.
