Ronald Belisario (Dodgers)

2/22/12 10:34 am

Ronald Belisario said Wednesday that he previously tested positive for cocaine.

Belisario wouldn’t say when the test took place and said he only used the substance once. He received treatment for a substance abuse problem during the 2010 season, but he said Wednesday that it wasn’t for cocaine. The 28-year-old right-hander missed the entire 2011 season and is still required to serve a 25-game suspension for a drug of abuse.

Rubby De La Rosa (Dodgers)

2/22/12 10:10 am

Rubby De La Rosa (elbow) expects to be able to throw off a mound in April.

De La Rosa underwent Tommy John surgery last August, but is already throwing off flat ground at a distance of 90 feet. The hard-throwing 22-year-old could return later this season and packs plenty of long-term potential.

Ted Lilly (Dodgers)

2/21/12 8:00 pm

Ted Lilly didn’t report to Dodgers’ camp on Tuesday because his wife gave birth to a girl.

He’ll be a day or two behind the other pitchers in camp, but shouldn’t have any problem getting ready for Opening Day. Lilly, 36, posted a 3.97 ERA and 158/51 K/BB ratio across 192 2/3 innings last season and should remain a useful starting pitcher in mixed formats.

Matt Kemp (Dodgers)

2/21/12 12:35 pm

Dodgers manager Don Mattingly announced Tuesday that Matt Kemp will bat third this season.

Kemp made 531 plate appearances out of the cleanup spot last year and only 158 plate appearances as the Dodgers’ No. 3 hitter. Mattingly thinks sliding the dangerous center fielder up permanently will prevent pitchers from throwing him complete junk.

Blake Hawksworth (Dodgers)

2/21/12 12:03 pm

Blake Hawksworth (elbow) has been ruled out for the start of the 2012 regular season.

Hawksworth recently underwent a cleanup procedure on his elbow and is a couple of weeks behind the other pitchers in Dodgers camp. He’ll aim to return by late April.

Javy Guerra (Dodgers)

2/21/12 12:01 pm

Dodgers manager Don Mattingly confirmed Tuesday that Javy Guerra is likely to open 2012 at closer.

“I’m going into camp thinking Javy is the guy,” Mattingly told reporters in Dodgers camp. Kenley Jansen has superb raw stuff and dominated batters last season, but Guerra was also excellent to the tune of a 2.38 ERA and 38/18 K/BB ratio in 46 2/3 frames. They should both carry significant fantasy value this year.

Clayton Kershaw (Dodgers)

2/21/12 11:55 am

Clayton Kershaw will start on Opening Day for the Dodgers.

Dodgers manager Don Mattingly made the no-brainer call on Tuesday in camp. Kershaw won the 2011 National League Cy Young Award after registering a tremendous 2.28 ERA, 0.98 WHIP and 248/54 K/BB ratio in 233 1/3 innings. He’ll be a fantasy ace again in 2012.

Andre Ethier (Dodgers)

2/20/12 11:38 pm

Dodgers general manager Ned Colletti told FOX Sports West that he has discussed a contract extension with Andre Ethier.

Colletti acknowledged that he has had a few discussions with Ethier, including a visit to the outfielder’s house this offseason. The 29-year-old, who will be a free agent after following the season, avoided arbitration with the Dodgers last month by agreeing to a one-year, $10.95 million contract.
