Brewers

Jonathan Lucroy (Brewers)

5/16/12 4:28 am

Jonathan Lucroy went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI in Tuesday’ 8-0 victory over the Mets.

It was Lucroy’s seventh multi-hit effort in his previous 12 games, during which his batting average has soared from .263 to .330. He also has nine RBI during this span, as timely hitting has made him a valuable commodity thus far.

Travis Ishikawa (Brewers)

5/15/12 9:49 pm

Travis Ishikawa blasted two home runs and drove in five, leading the Brewers to an 8-0 victory over the Mets on Tuesday.

Ishikawa finished the night 3-for-4 with a pair of runs scored and five RBI. He hit a solo shot off Dillon Gee in the fifth inning, then took him deep again for a three-run blast in the sixth. With the injury to Mat Gamel, the door has been opened for Ishikawa to receive additional playing time at first base, and he appears to be doing everything in his power to earn it. Ishikawa is now hitting .260 with four homers and 12 RBI in 50 at-bats.

Zack Greinke (Brewers)

5/15/12 9:42 pm

Zack Greinke continued his brilliant run on Tuesday night, limiting the Brewers to just five hits over seven shutout innings.

Greinke struck out seven and didn’t walk a batter in the game. When he’s on, he ranks among the top pitchers in the league. And he was certainly on tonight. Greinke hasn’t been scored upon in his last 15 innings of work, lowering his ERA to 2.88 in the process. He’ll look to keep that streak going when he squares off against the Twins on Sunday.

Rickie Weeks (Brewers)

5/15/12 2:27 pm

Rickie Weeks (hand) is back in the Brewers’ starting lineup Tuesday against the Mets.

Weeks has been held out of the lineup for the previous three games after being hit on the left wrist by a pitch last Friday, but he should be good to go moving forward. The 29-year-old second baseman is hitting just .157/.306/.289 through his first 147 plate appearances this year.

Rickie Weeks returned to action on Monday May 14.

Jed Bradley (Brewers)

5/14/12 11:17 pm

Brewers prospect left-hander Jed Bradley left his start Monday with High-A Brevard County due to a mild groin strain.

Bradley gave up two runs on three hits and two walks over 3 1/3 innings before exiting. The 2011 first-round pick skipped the Arizona Fall League due to a mild groin strain, an injury which lingered into the early days of spring training, so this situation is worth watching. The promising 23-year-old has a 3.53 ERA and 36/14 K/BB ratio in 43 1/3 innings in eight starts this season.

Yovani Gallardo (Brewers)

5/14/12 9:20 pm

Yovani Gallardo gave up two runs in six innings Monday in a loss to the Mets.

Gallardo allowed just two hits and struck out six, but he also walked a season-high six. While he has allowed three runs or less in three straight outings, he hasn’t completed seven innings in a start since April 22. That wouldn’t stop us from buying low, though. He’ll carry a 5.04 ERA into a recommended start against the Twins this weekend.

Rickie Weeks (Brewers)

5/14/12 5:49 pm

Brewers manager Ron Roenicke indicated that Rickie Weeks (hand) could return to the lineup as soon as Tuesday.

“He probably wanted to play today but he’s not 100 percent,” said Roenicke. “He may not be 100 percent tomorrow but he’s going to be pretty close. I thought one more day, just talking with (trainer) Dan Wright, is a better way to do it.” Weeks hasn’t played since being hit on the left wrist with a pitch on Friday, but X-rays came back negative and he was able to take some swings in the indoor cage Monday. Consider him day-to-day.

Rickie Weeks (Brewers)

5/14/12 2:58 pm

Rickie Weeks (hand) is not in Monday’s lineup.

Weeks hasn’t played since Friday because of a swollen hand. The 29-year-old second baseman is batting just .158 with a .600 OPS through 146 plate appearances this season. Brooks Conrad will start in his place in Monday night’s series-opener against the Mets.

Alex Gonzalez (Brewers)

5/14/12 9:59 am

Alex Gonzalez is scheduled to undergo season-ending surgery Thursday to repair his torn right ACL.

The procedure will be performed by Dr. William Raasch in Milwaukee. Gonzalez, 35, batted .259/.326/.457 with four home runs and 15 RBI in 89 plate appearances this year for the Brewers. He will become a free agent five days after the conclusion of the 2012 World Series.
