Lance Lynn gave up four runs on five hits and two walks over 3 2/3 innings in Sunday’s 6-4 victory over the Giants in Game 1 of the NLCS.
Lynn, who couldn’t crack Cardinals’ NLDS rotation, was starting as a result of Jaime Garcia’s shoulder injury. He hadn’t allowed a hit entering the fourth inning before giving up all four runs. It’s worth noting that Lynn pitched a career high 176 innings in the regular season, and appeared in all but two postseason games as a reliever, so fatigue likely played a factor in his inability to finish. The Cardinals bullpen held the Giants without a run in 5 1/3 innings of relief to secure the win.
