The Philadelphia Inquirer confirms Placido Polanco’s $5.5 million option this offseason will be declined.
Phillies GM Ruben Amaro, Jr. indicated that Chase Utley is likely staying at second base, so Kevin Frandsen and Freddy Galvis are the likeliest in-house candidates to replace him. It’s an expected move, as the contract includes a $1 million buyout. Coming off an injury-marred season, Polanco will struggle to find more than a part-time role this winter.
